I've actually considered making a book that's just a collection of stories from my world, binding it, illuminating the manuscript, and stealthily placing it in some bookstore somewhere. Maybe make some copies and put them in other bookstores like a scavenger hunt. No one would know exactly where they came from, but they would all have copies of the same manuscript. I think that would be fun, anyway.

bookbinding is time consuming but it is very satisfying, with me I like to go big or go home. I make grimoires (or book of shadows) and they usually contain 200-300 pages (not sides!)

I took a bookbinding class a few months ago after a good while of being a newbie binder. I used to fold all the pages individually also, but folding the signatures all at once keeps the leaves tightly together since the outside pages will be wrapped around multiple other pages. Keeps the spine more in line and makes the stitching easier, makes it a lot easier to punch straight holes too. You can just press the signatures afterwards to get it nice and tight. Your book is better than my first one for sure though so I don’t imagine it’ll matter at all unless you’re making a bunch anyway. I’m glad other people came to the same conclusion I did though, seems I’m in good company lol.
@CaptDrake6969
@CaptDrake6969 2 жыл бұрын
Also rounding keeps the book rectangular, the spine will be fatter if you do a straight back because of the folds and thread. They you get a nice square block instead of a little wedge shape 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

one way you can cut the holes into the signatures is while they're all together and clamped you just cut them all at the same time with a hack saw

I've seen people keep the signatures together with clamps, measure and mark where the holes should go, then use a file or a fine saw (like a jeweler's saw) to instead CUT the holes all at once and ensure they line up perfectly!

MAYBE! But I will say I spent a stupid amount of time finding a good paper to start with for a book this size. But that's just because of everyone's opinions I suppose.
