There will be changes made from the book in House Of The Dragon season 2, the trailer has made that much clear, some of them are very minor while some are much larger but shouldn't change the whole plot of the story. what these changes mosly are involve filling in the blanks from the source martial, fire and blood and allow for more well defined and fleshed out characters. Many of these changes are things that very well could have happened in between the events the books establish. So in this video we take a look at why changes such as this are needed, and how the three changes i have picked out, Jace at The Wall, Rhaenyra looking for Lucerys book and Baela at Rook's Rest will play a key role in fleshing out the story.

The Dance Of The Dragons will be the focus of the plot of the new HBO spin-off House Of The Dragon coming in 2022. So if you want to learn the story before we see HBO's take on it then this will be a very long-running series. Game Of Thrones / House of the dragon are HBO shows based on George R R Martin's A Song Of Ice And Fire series. I promise this is the last video I make about the House Of The Dragon Trailers. Anyhow, just to be clear, I would prefer adapting from page to screen the writers stick to the source martial as much as they can, House Of The Dragon is a challenge given the structure of fire and blood thus these kinds of changes that fill in the gaps were always going to happen. My position is as long as it doesn’t impact the overall story and over arching themes of the book then I’m happy to give changes a crack and see what happens. Thus far it seems like the changes in season 2 won’t impact the story in a meaningful way but more so add more depth to the characters. But only time will tell. In a few weeks time I could be eating my words.

In the book, Baela would later be chained as she would jump at any possibility of killing Aegon. This hatred of hers would make sense if she saw her grandmother sacrificing herself to save her. So the change would be great addition to her character development.

I LOVE the idea of Baela being at Rooks Rest. It enhances the story and ties in directly with her encounter with Sunfyre.

The book was also written by the Maestor who was on the side of the Greens and wrote the book after the events, so he wasn't even there to notify all the events, probably several things happened that he himself doesn't even know.

I know that they filmed Alicent’s and Viserys Wedding. I’d like to see it mainly because I know the costume department does a hell of a lot of work and it would be nice to see their hard work shown off

Whatever the show has to do to make an adaptation WORTH WATCHING I'm in favor in. I'm all for making the main players in the dance being given multiple dimensions. The confrontation between Aemon and Lucerys was so appropriate. And Rhaenyra searching for his body adds some realism to the situation. As far as the maesters documenting such an event happening, clearly they're weren't that much more fond of her than her brother.

I am hoping the screenwriters use the type of tragic storytelling devices that Aristotle describes to structure the source material and the characters’ arcs. I feel they did this a bit with Viserys (sudden fall from grace, tragic flaw, etc etc) in Season 1 and it really enhanced the story.

My hope for season 3 is we get some daemon flashbacks but idk if the writers want to add heavy flashbacks in the show even though I think it’ll work well for hotd and adding depth to the characters.

I think Baela sneaks out and goes to look for her grandmother's body, she probably sees the aftermath of the battle (meleys' remains, green banners at Rook's rest) when she screams in anger or she follows Rhaenys to rook's rest (against Rhaenys' orders) . I don't think Rhaenys would allow her granddaughter to put herself in danger. Chainmail is probably just a precaution : in s1 Rhaenys had armour in King's landing.

Tbh I don’t mind changes like bringing Baela to Rocks rest. Like I doubt she would fight, moondancer is small and i think her being there and witnessing what will happen is a good set up for what her role will be later on and what she will do. So yeah, changes are welcome as long they don’t stray away from the source material a lot, and from the few shots in the trailers, it doesn’t seem they will change major stuff and that’s fine for me.

I wonder how news of Lucerys's death with reach Dragonstone. I doubt Aemond will tell her as it will be all the excuse Rhaenyera (who may not know that he and Lucerys were both at Storm's End) needs to start a war, and keeping the attack secret, will give the Greens time to gather their forces. Rhaenyera also needs time to allow Jacerys to continue his meetings in the North and Vale with their lords. So declaring war quickly is not in her favour. I suspect that Daemon will be quickly convinced of his murder through his spies and begin his revenge for both the death of Lucerys and his unborn child . Once Blood and Cheese have carried out their attack, war will officially begin. That's just my thoughts.

Out of curiosity what is your opinion on how Denis Villeneuve adapted the Dune novel which is infamous for being perceived as impossible to adapt to film? I recently checked out David Lynch's 1984 adaptation and ironically it is more faithful to the novel but is complete mess from a screen writing perspective.

I love both the Villeneuve and Lynch Dune's for different reasons. The book was always going to be really hard to adapt and i was skeptical when the first Dune came out but was surprised with how well it turned out. I tend to compare Villeneuve's Dune to Jackson's Lord Of The Rings. Both are really well done adaption that do differ from the source martial in some significant ways. They both managed to walk that middle ground of adapting a book and making a film and i get the sense that in both cases the changes they made were to service the filmmaking aspect of it by walking that line both managed to create fantastic moves that work as adaption of the book even if there are elements that differ. A misconception is adapting a book to film is easier than writing an original screenplay but it really is just as hard and needs a very different set of skills to do well. But they key at the heart of any adaption is the screenwriter/film maker truly needs to love the source martial on a fundamental level like i think Villeneuve and Jackson did. In the case of Game Of Thrones i don't think the show runners truly did hence why they were happy to rush the story post red wedding to get to the end point and move on.

While I don’t like going to away from the source some changes will need to be made. I can understand you can go back and forth why it’s a good or it’s a bad change. I do agree with time will tell & also they don’t wanna go on too far off like got did after S4.

I fear this show is becoming an extremely expensive fan fic. No Daeron? Jace going to the Wall? Baela at RR? Rhaenyra at SE? I guess we'll just have to wait until June.

I still think we will get Daeron in season 3 based on what some leakers have said (the only leaker i trust). But i do think it is a mistake not to introduce him in season 2, i can live with the 'added content' for the most part, i'm just not a fan of when they change already well established events like the Dragon Pit in season 1. One of my biggest worries is if they do end up cutting Daeron they will merge both Tumbletons into one. I'm also worried about what's going to happen with Bitterbridge given they haven't mentioned Maelor at all and even a lot of fans have seemingly forgotten him to.

I haven’t read fire in blood myself or any of the other material relating to the Dance of the dragons aside from The lore videos on KZfaq & your videos… But from what they HAVE adapted So far Aside from The crowning of Aegon II & them cutting Coles King maker speech.. I can’t say it’s been bad.. The way they adapt it is good so far.. I like the idea of Rhaynera looking for her sons body & it adding some depth .. Also Jace going to the Wall…

The script from season 1 indicate Oldtown even if that got cut in the final edit. The show runners have suggested he's being introduced in season 3. I'm hoping we at least get a name drop or some indication he exists in season 2 even if he doesn't physically appear.

I struggle to find common ground in the perception that this story had to be told this way. Framing it as actual testimony from mushroom and others with flashbacks that may conflict with one another’s accounts would have been the ideal way to portray fire and blood rather than changing EVERYTHING to fill in their own gaps
