The Book of Boba Fett finale just gave Star Wars fans a whole lotta Easter Eggs and a lotta action with everyone thrown into the mix. We saw Boba Fett riding a rancor, the Mods, the freetown people, angry wookie Black Krrsstan, Fennec Shand being scary good at her job, and best of all-The Mandalorian Din Djarin reunited with Grogu!
It turns out that Grogu chose the beskar armor over the lightsaber, walking away for the Jedi path, and maybe dooming Luke’s new Jedi order to fail. The episode also contained numerous references to the Godfather and other classic gangster movies, and had callbacks to nearly eerie Star wars film, including A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, the Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, Solo, rebels and the Clone Wars. Plus there was just a little world building to lay the groundwork for the Force Awakens.
Also, Boba Fett was in the episode too!

20:22 Why This Show Makes Me Anxious
The episode brought all of the reason’s dangling plot threads together, including Black Kerstan, Din Djarin, the Rancor, the mods, Freetown, and even Grogu’s new jedi skills had a chance to be adorable.
The title of the episode, in the name of honor, reflects the reason why everyone is fighting. The people fighting for the Pykes were bought by the Pykes. But the people fighting for Boba choose to be with him, for their homes, like Freetown, for Loyalty, like Fennec shand, or for honor, like Din, for his creed.
All season long, we were asking why Boba Fett wants to be a crime lord. And this episode gave our answer-to have a family. It’s not that he wants to be a crime lord. He recognizes the value of having a tribe.
So the real Book of Boba fett was the friends we made along the way.
So let’s get into the easter eggs, beginning with all the tropes the show has taken from gangster movies. Jabba the Hutt was originally intended to be a kind of grotesque version of Marlon Brando as Vito Corleone. Or, more like Marlon Brando in Apocalypse Now.
Bombing an establishment owned by a rival gang is an old gangster trope. And, so is debating whether or not to sell drugs on the street. Because if you sell spice, the next thing you know the death stick dealers show up and your neighborhood goes to hell.
So, if you need to know which gangsters are good or bad, the ones who don’t sell drugs are good. The Pykes, on the other hand, have built their organization on the trade of spice, like we’ve seen in the Clone Wars and Solo, where they operated the spice mines of Kessel.
The entire season seems to be mimicking the structure of the godfather part 2, cutting to flashbacks constantly. As I went over in this video, I don;t think the structure worked, check that out if you want to know why. Now the end of this episode also mimics the godfather part 2. Boba receives fruit from the townspeople, just like Don Fanucci.
And, that fruit Boba receives is called a melrun, which we saw in Star Wars Rebels.
When the trandoshans turned on Kerstan, it was very reminiscent of the death of Sonny Corleone in the godfather. And just this sequence of the betrayals is like the ending to all godfather films, when Michael slowly eliminates all of his enemies.
The aqualish also turns on the mods. The mods, but the way are named and designed after the english mod culture in the 0s-even the mirror on their bikes are a nod to this.
And the klatooinian turning on the gmoreans guards is suuuuper lame. They just back them up. Come on! The Gamorreans can fight! We saw it in episode 1!
Cad bane Explained
When Boba wants to retreat to his fortress, Mod number 2 disagrees. Which makes for a way more interesting episode, and earns the loyalty of the people of Mos Espa.
And then cad bane rolls into town. If you haven't seen the Clone Wars animated series, then you might be wondering who the heck this guy is. Basically, ‘he’s been the baddest bounty hunter in the galaxy for like 30 years at this point. His facem duster, and hat are designed to mimic the look of Lee Van Cleef in Sergio Leone's spaghetti western trilogy.

Grogu likes shiny objects but he knows danger when he sees it. And he’s gifted so he knows where to point the force. He went for the joint, a vulnerable place on anything with joints. I think Grogu knew just where to concentrate but didn’t consider the trajectory or is just too small to physically handle the thrust without the force. He’ll learn.

When the rancor rips the droid in half and Bobba says “Do It” I believe it was a call back to Anakin being told to kill Dooku by the emperor (even using the same arm motion to rip the droid as Anakin did to kill Dooku) and it showcases Bobbas turn to good the same way the latter showcased Anakins fall to the dark side

Speaking as a New Zealander, Tem Morrison has always tried to bring Maori fighting styles into this show. When He kills at the end, that face is often used in Haka when symbolising defeating the enemy - if you're a kiwi, you'd know it. The tongue out and the shake of the head while stabbing down. Go Tem. Proud New Zealander here, I'd watch it even if it was rubbish - fortunately, it was excellent.

I also thought the fight between Boba Fett and Cad Bane had some fantastic symbology for Boba Fett's growth as a character. Bane comments about Boba's armor and when the fight begins, Fett relies on his armor and blaster. These are iconic to the original character we know, and the same Boba Fett that Bane knows. When Cad Bane went in for the killing blow, he knocked Boba Fett's helmet off and in that moment we get to see Boba as vulnerable. He's no longer the masked badass but rather an emotional and complex character. Finally, it's Fett using the Tusken gully staff and the training he received from the Tuskens to defeat Bane. He used the tools and tactics he gained from his journey of growth - his newfound personality and strength - to defeat someone from his past. With the notion of Cad Bane teaching a young Boba Fett, this fight shows us Boba's growth from the silent badass into his evolution of an individual who is more than his armor while confronting the demons from his younger days. At least that's how I saw it.

Presumably, Grogu choosing to put the Rancor to sleep is simultaneously a sign of his growing powers -- he'd used them a moment ago to stop the droid and didn't have to fall asleep -- and that he's more balanced, since the last time he thought Mando was in danger, he tried to force choke Cara Dune.

I was thinking the same thing at this point! He didn't know that Grogu had come back for him yet, his fellow Mandalorians exiled him for taking off his helmet, and he was just down. So he saw an honorable cause he could go fight for & at that moment he was taking his out. Then, when he connects (sort of) with the dark Saber during the battle I knew he changed his mind and wanted to keep fighting.

On the topic of Boba "remembering" he has a jetpack, I saw this theory that you actually need to have the helmet on in order for the pack to work, as a safety precaution. Hence during the fight in Episode 1 he couldn't use his pack, as he couldn't put his helmet on. The show even makes a point to show the helmet fall to the ground during the fight. In the first episode of Mando season 2, as Cobb Vanth is preparing to enter the fight with the Kryat dragon, he's shown putting on his helmet before his jetpack activates. We also never see any other mandolorians or clones or anyone else using their jetpacks without their helmet on, with the sole exception of Pre Vizla during his duel with Maul. Considering this is the only time that we see anyone do this, I'd say it's more likely that Pre Vizla's jetpack was modified to bypass that safety precaution. So it's not that Boba forgot he had a jetpack, it's that it wasn't an option at the time. (And yes, I know about the foot thruster things used by both Bane in TCW and Ezra in Rebels, those are very clearly different technology though, since they emit some sort of blue energy instead of a jet of fire, don't allow long-range flight, and are obviously mounted differently)
@faevoryn6578
@faevoryn6578 2 жыл бұрын
This is a thought provoking idea! I bet Mandalorians are not keen on flying without helmets. I do recall Bo Katan giving Obi Wan a jetpack in the Clone Wars, and both of them flew without helmets in that scene. But I like your theory of Visla making a modification. Bo Katan was Visla's right hand back then. Maybe all of the Deathwatch crew followed suit...

A bit of mirroring in this episode too, it happened a few times, but the best one being the shot of Boba throwing down his stick into Cad Bane. That was definitely about the Rancor imprinting on Bobba and not about Mandalore. I actually loved that scene. He was so cocky “Here, watch the kid for a sec while I go sort this out… oh crap… OH CRAP!!… this was a mistake.” It actually tied back to those early episodes of Season 1 of Mandalorian when we see him screwing up a lot and making mistakes. Once we saw the X-Wing coming, I think all of us wondered if Luke was going to end up joining the fight on Boba Fett's side. It's probably for the best because a few seasons down the line I could see Din Djarin summoning all his allied to help in a climactic battle to put Grogu on the throne of Mandalore (or whatever the climactic fight will be about). That's the point where Luke and Boba meet again. But there was a huge missed opportunity because we could have had Luke see Grogu stopp a rancor without even needing to hurt it. Lovely as always, Ryan! I think Grogu must obtain the Dark Saber. Din Jarin is shown to have difficulty riding the same beast that Boba easily rides. Same for the other beast in S01E01 it was hard for him to tame it. So Din is not the heir to Mandalor (represented by the beasts closest approximating the mythosaur). Or perhaps Yoda knew all along that telling the truth about his friends to Luke would cause it. There was some long-game planning within Yoda. Same perhaps in slightly older Luke, telling the kid what he had to do about attachment etc. One strange thing is Luke is super close to his sister, Brother in law, niece and nephew and fights on their behalf/rescues them (Legends) so I don't see him being that caught up in the no-attachment thing. Revenge for Owen and Beru may have informed his willingness to travel with Obi wan in the first place (as in Anakin revenge for mama_)

I know they didn't put Luke in this episode because it'd probably cause story issues (or it'd be too expensive), but man, just sending a toddler in a star fighter and R2 just leaves without knowing Grogu is with Mando is just funny. This is Luke's first student, and he gave him the Heisman after the kid missed his dad. From a story perspective it's so weird.

@@nicholaswhorley8343 so, I can’t remember when I heard it but basically, it wasn’t because of his armor, he didn’t get hurt because of the fact that he used the force, the same way the a Jedi’s lightsaber will stop right in there hand vs them having to move there arm to adjust for the impact.. however since grogu isn’t fully trained in the force he does fly back as he hasn’t fully learned to control it coming towards him and stopping for him to grab it.

Feel like it's also important to note, a lot of people during the Age of Empire also had a huge distrust of battle droids because of the Clone Wars. Emperor Palpatine when he was still in control of the empire actually gave an officer a protocol Droid. the same officer later returned a message saying basically that he was honored by his gift, however something bad happened to the protocol Droid. He never actually went into specific detail as to what happened to it
@BetaX425

There was also the fact that those 'gifts' were often stuffed to the brim with surveillance equipment so the ISB could keep tabs on the their officer corps. Look up the RA-7 Protocol Droid if you want more information.

11:52 _“Just use your jetpack, dude.”_ There are many scenes throughout Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett where using their jetpacks preemptively would’ve been easier. However, you never see either of them use their jetpacks for more than a burst of a few seconds here and there, except when in a fully dire scenario (it’s not like you ever see either of them pleasure-cruising across the desert from one town to another by jetpack). That leads me to believe their jetpack fuel reserves are fairly limited (maybe 30-60 seconds of flight time total), and they’re trained to try to always keep some left in the tank for an emergency escape or life-saving maneuver. Their jetpacks are one of their ace-in-the-hole weapons- they don’t have a lot of it, but when all else fails it can save them. So I’d head-canon that they both try to deliberately use as little jetpack fuel and keep as much in reserve as possible- Boba Fett Ep. 7 and Mandalorian S. 2 Ep. 1 are probably the only two times we see Boba and Din respectively completely deplete their jetpack tanks (Boba’s mostly off-screen, returning to his palace in a hurry).

Irrelevant we haven’t seen any on tattooine...also when he was riding him he had his helmet and full suit on so the rancor couldn’t see his face...I’m guessing that’s why mando tried to ride him when he was on the tower because he was the closest resemblance to boba with the suit and helmet shape. However the rancor quickly threw him off which tells me that it’s more than just a visual connection. Boba has obviously been training with him nonstop and I’m thinking a lot of it has to do with smell. Everyone has a unique scent. It’s like when your dog can tell it’s you before it can even see you.

The clones aged at twice the normal rate and the Empire scrubbed the program. So, most likely all the clones are dead but if any are alive, they would look twice as old as Boba Fett.
@yoursonisold8743
@yoursonisold8743 2 жыл бұрын
By the time of Rebels (so before A New Hope) first generation clones like Rex are already old men. Cut to post Empire and they are most likely all dead. They were created with accelerated aging intentionally so they would get rid of them after the war was done. It's a huge deal in the Clone Wars related media. Boba was the only perfect clone (aside from Omega apparently) who had no accelerated aging and no alterations to his DNA or structure. He is just a perfect copy of Jango Fett.

I loved this episode! The return of the Rancor was on par with both the T. Rex appearing at the end of Jurassic World & Godzilla's first appearance in the 2014 Godzilla film Was a bit disappointed that there was no possible mention of Omega (or even Fennec's past interaction with Bane) throughout this season but...That's what future seasons are for? When discussing the Scorpenek Battle Droids, I was surprised you didn't mention the Onderon Arc from Clone Wars? If the Scorpeneks use similar forcefield technology to Droidekas, then it was established (in that Arc) that slow moving object could penetrate their forcefields. With Din Djarin now piloting a Naboo Starfighter, him keeping Grogu (who's name might be a reference to Rogu from American Dad?) in the Astromech slot, it reminded me a lot of the car Homer Simpson designed in The Simpsons' episode; "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?" At 19:38, I'm glad you mention Galaxy's Edge because I just thought of an attraction that involves the Rickshaw Droid (that was also featured in this episode). It's basically one of those "teacup" spinning ride where guests sit in the rickshaw (that moves from side-to-side) while the Droid pulls the rickshaw while also moving in a circle. It may be generic but it might be a decent attraction for Galaxy's Edge?

I think the tusken drug trip in which boba sees the tree in the ocean is actually a vision of tatooine from thousands of years ago before it dried up. Makes a lot more sense seeing as it's the tuskens who induce the trip for a journey to get his gaffi stick, which is a sacred act to them
