Excellent idea for a video! Neverwhere is one of my favorite books of all time, just a magical dark fantasy. The Dark Descent does sound interesting.

The last cuentista author has an owl middle grade book. It's sounds good. The last cuentista has won a couple of literary awards. The publisher Levine Querido is close to becoming a favorite middle grade/ YA publisher

I knew that it was on a couple awards lists, but I didn't know which ones! Glad you've found a YA/Middle Grade publisher you can trust!!

Great video idea Danni The Last Cuentista definitely left an impact on me💙 For a historical fiction recommendation I’d say The Smell of Other People’s by Bonnie-Sue Hitchcock. I feel like it was popular when it came out but I don’t see people talk about it anymore. It’s set in Alaska focusing on generational trauma with a found family💜

Yes! The Smell of Other People's Houses was a great book! My only complaint is that I wanted it to be longer! The Last Cuentista also a very good read.

I love this as a new series! I might have to piggyback and do my own video for this. Maybe you could do a version with authors’ debut novels? Often times we grab from someone’s newest release and don’t think to start at their first publication!

I have been SO inspired by these books...that I have added the following into my TBR for May (only for the first two). 1) The Last Cuentista by Donna Barba Miguera 2) Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman 3) Five Little Indians by Michelle Good - Hold...will come in - about 14 weeks. Ugh 4) The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston - Hold...will come in - about 21 weeks. Double ugh. That is the order, too. Thank you SO much. I'm a Mood Reader...and these books seem to be calling to me. Thank you.

Ahh! I'm so excited to hear what you think of all of these Graff! I'm also excited that Five Little Indians and The Dead Romantics have such long wait lists. It sucks to have to wait, but at least that means those reads are still getting the readership I believe they deserve. Happy Reading!

This is such a wonderful idea. Yes, please do this OFTEN. I think that BookTube "sometimes" (let's be honest, OFTEN/ALL the TIme), only talks about the "new" or "latest" books...and everything that has gone on before it...last year's news. This SERIES (yes, I've said it) is going to be a hit. Calling it. Out of the five books, the two that I will MOST definitely pick up, are Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere and Donna Barba Miguera's The Last Cuentista. Those two books really speak to me. Honestly, I own Neverwhere...so there really is NOTHING holding me back from reading it. Now, the other one, I'll have to look to my libraries. Being in the Midwest, may not be an easy find. If not, I'll buy it (on your recommendation). Now, the other one that seemed like something that I'd pick up, is Five Little Indians by Michelle Good. Thank you for SPOTLIGHTING these books. You're the best. Talk to you, soon.

Will do! I really enjoyed reminiscing about these older reads. There are so many good books out there that just get forgotten about after a time. I'm excited to continue this series and highlight some older and fantastic reads! I hope you enjoy Neverwhere and The Last Cuentista. I thought both were phenomenal reads. I can't wait to hear your thoughts. Five Little Indians is an excellent read. It was really out of my wheelhouse, but it was so informative and impactful. I wish more people would pick it up! Thanks Graff!

Yes, please to making this a series. There are so many good books to highlight! This is a great idea. Neverwhere didn’t resonate with me - I much preferred American Gods. I think I liked the mythology framework rather than the more horror-influenced urban setting. An older fantasy I would super recommend is Nick Harkaway’s The Gone Away World (2008). Post apocalyptic mind bender in the best possible way. Go in blind. So, so good.

Will do. I'm excited to get to highlight some lesser talked about books. I need to get to American Gods. I also need to read Norse by Gaiman. I enjoy his writing. The Gone Away World has been added to the list! Love a mind bending book!

i've just now been getting on to books i've had on my radar for years, and sometimes all i can think is : how was this NOT talked about more? I remember chatter about Blood Heir, and then some controversy about it or the author (idk) and then absolute silence. Six Crimson Cranes, Daughter of the Moon Goddess, and The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea were my top reads this year so far, and i seldom find mention of it anywhere on booktube Shanghai Girls, and Pachinko are majorly slept on of course, my snobby-trash-goblin self will never be happy until Sense & Sensibility gets equal recognition to Pride & Prejudice

It really is sad that so many books are forgotten about before most readers have even heard of them. All of those books have stunning covers and have been on and off my TBR for the past several years. Not sure they are for me, but the stories sound really interesting. I'm most likely to pick up Six Crimson Cranes as I like the component of her having to figure out other ways to communicate other than speaking. Pachinko is also on my radar, but I know it is a little heavy so I need to be in the right head space to read it. I've never read Sense & Sensibility, but I didn't like Pride & Prejudice so I'll trust your judgement. I'll be a snobby-trash-goblin with you!
