Joihn Wilson is in Charlotte, Michigan. He offers classes in making Shaker boxes for beginners and advanced techniques. I have taken two of his classes, and enjoyed both. John is in his 80's and has an incredible zeal for teaching and providing supplies. His book is everything that James indicates.

I just visited Hancock Shaker Village in Massachusetts a few weeks ago. Love these boxes, and I'll certainly be making some in the future!

I’ve thought about making Shaker boxes for many years but never got around to trying to. Perhaps I’ll now give it a try.

I'm more interested in the bent wood boxes made in Medieval Europe from at least the 900's through the 1600's - no fingers on the ends and no tacks, the ends of the sides were sewn together with a variety of things including the split roots of the trees that had been cut to make the sides and ends.

No, very similar techniques, different aesthetic on the finished product. I'm going to have to use leather or twine for the stitching as I can't just go to the Botanic Gardens and dig up their trees for the roots :-) I do have a couple of pounds of copper tacks I bought years ago for some leatherworking project that I never used. Now to find some Roundtuit.
