So Luther was a Narcissist. I have always thought of the Protestant version of "personal relationship" with Jesus as a narcissistic type of relationship. They take all the blessings & grace but don't see that they have to give back to God spiritually through sacrifice & good works -Reciprocation.

I once heard a Catholic apologist (wish I could recall the name) describe how Luther, in his own writings, disclosed that he repeatedly admitted his personal failings and sinful behavior to his confessor, and I think the interviewee also said Luther prayed and undertook various penances, but nothing ever changed. Perhaps another reason Luther lost faith in the Church and decided that only "faith alone" (or good intentions) were necessary for salvation, and that a sinner's personal efforts were unnecessary. I had just recently been wondering whether the Augustinians may have directed Luther to undergo whatever form of liturgical exorcism or deliverance was available at the time. Hearing these descriptions of his rebellious personality, I wonder, would Luther have submitted under order of obedience... or refused?

Thats funny because everyone knows the sins that priests did in Rome as did the Popes and the massive genocide and torture of innocent cats and animals which shows the demonic souls of catholics. Hypocrites attacking Luther getting drunk one time to cope with his problems or having fun. Wow. Im not saying reformers and germans didnt either. Only orthodox didnt.

No ! Conservative Confessional Lutherans hold on to many aspects of the Catholic faith.! Please have a friendly chat with a Missouri Synod Lutheran Church pastor! Yes....they do believe in the Real Presence, the Holy Trinity, eta. Missouri Synod Lutherans are not like the liberal lqbtxyz Lutherans.

@@michaelciccone2194 OP is talking about Luther's own intentions and beliefs. Whatever the 21st century Missouri Synod believes does not and cannot undo the damage Luther caused to the Body of Christ 500 years ago. And their "communion" is merely bread and wine, not the consecrated Eucharist.

4/24/24 - Just heard about this translation today, as Father was a guest on Joe McClane's morning show. The book is only $15 at Sensus Fidelium Press. Can't wait to read it! Although I expect it will be a sad portrayal of a fallen soul and personality, who worked to annihilate the Church.

Read Ecclesiasticus 19:22-25 "22 There is an exquisite subtilty, and the same is unjust. 23 And there is one that uttereth an exact word telling the truth. There is one that humbleth himself wickedly, and his interior is full of deceit: 24 And there is one that submitteth himself exceedingly with a great lowliness: and there is one that casteth down his countenance, and maketh as if he did not see that which is unknown: 25 And if he be hindered from sinning for want of power, if he shall find opportunity to do evil, he will do it." After reading this book, it seems the warnings from the Wisdom of Sirach/Solomon were there to be heeded, by lay and ecclesiastical leaders alike!! I am sorry that this friar made as much headway and division as he did, and still does, in all of our families. May our Good God have mercy on us and bring our separated brethren home to His One, True Church.

Yes, there were countless monks and nuns who were martyred as a consequence of the Protestant schism. The majority of these have not been canonized, simply because they were so numerous at the time. Some have been canonized as a group, like the Carthusian martyrs of Londons. There others who fled from their monasteries and convent, and others joined with Luther. Whether they did this out of fear or conviction is something which we can never know, in most cases.

Yes also a group of nuns were led to their death in a cart all the while singing holy prayers one by one the nuns went to Mother asked for permission to exit the cart as they walked to their beheading they sang, the crowds were cheering their deaths but by the time the last nun was beheaded the crowd had gone silent and left the murder site in silence. They were shocked at these nuns joy to die for God and church and their obedience to Mother Superior. So many holy people were martyred.

Two ideas really hit home… 1) Martin Luther, well-known as a proud and aggressive heretic/detractor/slanderer/drunkard/oath-breaker, who enjoyed the attention and company of demons, and purposefully instigated terrible scandals and uprisings that caused the death of many thousands of people during his lifetime (100’s of thousands after his death), is venerated today as the wise reformer of God’s Word, His Church, and His Laws. 2) Pope Francis venerates Luther and keeps a large statue of him on the stage of his audience hall. 🤔

His dad was a merchant and wanted Martin to go to law school so he can resolve his contract problems. But Martin converted and became a theologian.

This is a click bait video Please read more accurate Catholic scholarly books on Martin Luther that are based on sound academic research. Joseph Lortz wrote a terrific book on the Reformation many years ago

This is a recent translation of a book written by a contemporary of Luther's. The author, James Laing, widely respected by his contemporaries, recorded facts that were known about Luther at the time Luther was alive, and the effects of his rebellion on society as a whole. Perhaps you missed, or simply discounted, that part of the discussion. Unlike his own fellow scholars, present-day Protestants have nothing good to say about Laing, dismissing him as a gossip and slanderer; it's my guess that you share those views.
