Thank you for the recommendations! They seem perfect for that melancholy but cozy mood of fall. Im biased because its my favorite book series but i feel like Lord of the Rings is so associated with fall to me. Outside of the descriptions of the shire in the begining that makes me so happy- the story in all takes place during the end of an era in the ruins of a greater time- Its literally in the Fall of the world. Perfect fall read to me, and of course reading the hobbit near the end of summer leading into fall. Annual tradition at this point 😅

i know it's quite different to what u usually post + talk abt, but do u have any recommendations for books that are magical + whimsical (preferably happy-- i read too many sad books + need a change), but not full epic fantasy, more just surreal/eccentric in a slightly more ordinary way? the downside is that i have already read almost all of the translated japanese books that make me think of this sort of thing (e.g. "earthlings", "the cat who saved books", "if cats disappeared from the world", the coffee ones, etc, etc, etc), so it can't really be any of those (unless u maybe know of some incredibly obscure one, in which case, pls share with the class bitch), and i've also read + enjoyed "bunny", "piranesi", ummmmmmmm i've also read + loved a LOT of mythology retellings, but i feel like they don't quite fit into this vibe??? and i'm happy to a read a book aimed at kids/middle grade too idc as long as it's good (like ofc "percy jackson", altho i stopped at some point actually, idk why, and i also loved "the last dragon chronicles" as a kid + even now)! ps i love all of ur videos so so much! they're all different + the books actually vary!

balls! im late to the party but The Goddess Chronicle by Natsuo Kirino might be good? I haven't read it yet, but I love her writing. It's japanese and a mythology retelling! i feel like it could be a romp. kinda left field but I would die for The Mysterious Benedict Society books (and the one spinoff about Nicholas Benedict is just as great)--it's a middle grade series. ohhhh my goodness also the golden compass. ok you have homework, report back.

YES to Foreign Affairs. Alison Lurie renaissance, please. That's such a charming book. And Writers and Lovers is an excellent suggestion. Out is dark, in the best way. If you loved Valley of the Dolls I highly recommend Diary of a Mad Housewife by Sue Kaufman. I think almost any Anne Tyler works for fall. She's an autumn mood on her own. oooh, new hair who dis 😚 💅 now i wanna make a video like this!! i read Goat Mountain a few years ago and sheesh, THAT was bleak. i’ve been wanting to reread it because it’s the perfect fall book. the book just *feels* cold and lonely and deathly. a murder happens pretty early on, on a hunting trip, and the rest of the novel explores really dark themes of the consequences of decisions even as a child, how unconditionally should parents love and protect their kids…i dont wanna say more than that in case u wanna read it. it’s short, and so good. all ur recs are now on my tbr!! especially Out. i’ve had the same frustration recently of not liking ANYTHING ive read. all modern authors ive read recently are just awful. im also tired of character tropes, like the fucking manic pixie dream girl, the coming of age teen boy that likes her, the hot jock she likes instead, her mean popular girl foil, iykyk. i just hate all books rn. and all audiobook narrators are annoying too. cant catch a break 😂 thanks for another great video! been loving them!

I didn't know Joe Hill was Stephen King's son omg! You should definitely read "Pet Semetary" by Stephen King. Its not a niche genre of horror so you might like it. As everyone loved it😂😂

The only book among your fall recommendations that I have read is Foreign Affairs by Alison Lurie. I loved it and have reread it. Based on that experience I will try some of the others on your list starting with Writers & Lovers.

Great review! I am in the middle of John Irving's The Last Chairlift. Loving it, but I love all his work. Also by him and a good book for this time of year and my favorite of his is A Prayer for Owen Meaney. Check them out. Love your work!

How did you feel about American Psycho? I read it over the summer and I was really just unsure of how I felt in the end and what to make of it. Also, have you read any Dostoevsky? I found a bunch of cool editions of his books at Goodwill and snatched them all like the greedy wench I am. Now, I'm unsure where to begin.
