This video came at the right time. I read 11 books in January, 4 in February and haven't read anything since then. I've tried picking up a few books but not able to get into any of them. This happens to me every year where I read a lot and want to read everything at one point and then after a while not read anything at all for an extended period of time. I'm going through that phase again right now. Thanks so much for the recommendations Hannah ❤

As a philosophy major, I read so. many. books. So many dense philosophical pieces that take me hours to read through 7 pages. I got so burnt out for reading, I hadn't been reading any fiction, which I used to love to do. This video is coming at a perfect time, since I'm trying to curate a list of books I will read during the summer when I'm not being bogged down by academic papers. Thanks, Hannah.

@deliriousdev_
@deliriousdev_ 2 ай бұрын
@@subhranilghosh8028 for stoicism I really love Seneca and Diogenes Laertius!! Very good portrayals of stoicism that (at least for seneca) is a bit more applicable to our day to day lives and has more practicality to it. I read a lot of critical theory and a lot about social theories of activism, so I really love Angela Davis and Herbert Marcuse. Marcuse's One Dimensional Man was really influential to me as well! But you can really start anywhere, although I will say it's always going to be 10x more rewarding if you have a professor to lecture on individual pieces. Until I got my footing, reading Hegel was like a total mindf*ck for me, so having a prof to guide my understanding helped a lot. Good luck in your studies!!

For me, what got me out of the worst reading slump I ever had (post-university when I finally had time to rediscover my hobbies) was to reread some of the books that made me love reading in the first place - so I went back to the children's books I loved as a kid. I think it worked because they are by nature, easy to read, nice and short, fun and lighthearted, full of hope and magic and all the things we miss as adults. It also made me treasure these books all over again, particularly classics such as the Secret Garden, Redwall, Wind in the Willows, Winnie the Pooh, Malory Towers. Adult fiction can be so dark and high stakes, reading is ultimately supposed to be fun!

The Green Bone Saga by Fonda Lee is a great series to get one out of a reading slump. Interesting -- but easy to comprehend-- worldbuilding/setting, amazing cast of characters/relationships/dynamics, and a fast-paced, attention-grabbing plot. In my opinion, the series was well worth the hype, and the books were certainly hyper-fixations for me. There is a lot of amazing fanart for the series out there and I flooded my twitter TL and tumblr dash with it all as I was reading and becoming more and more obsessed lol

This has actually been the best reading year, so far, for me since maybe...2018? I used to only read books if I could finish them in one sitting. But this year I've made it a goal to read at least an hour a day (usually right before bed) everyday and it has worked wonders for me. I'm currently on my 19th book! I hope you beat your reading slump soon! 😊

Boy did you nail it - I always went down a fanfic spiral when I was feeling depressed, and it never really felt good in the end. I am pushing through my slump with short translated works by women. Cold Nights of Childhood by Tezer Ozlu was fjdgaakahd STUNNING. Maybe would describe it as a distant relative of The Bell Jar. My next is Nefando by Monica Ojeda - about 6 people who get caught up in a horror-core cult video game?! Yes. Yes. Yes. Good luck getting out of your slump - thanks for sharing your recs!

OMG! Legendborn is my favourite book. Bree is a great main character. She is smart, curious, and kind, in the best way possible. I found the plot incredibly interesting, it’s based off the King Arthur myth and the magic system she uses to bring everything together is also good. And one of the best executed things is Bree’s connection to her heritage and her exploration of family relationships.

I've had my eye on a few of these but it's been really hard for me to focus on books in the past 5 years even though I have finished a decent amount of books. Comics/Manga gave me a nice change of pace in between novels. Reading books similar to movies and tv shows I'm watching has helped too, but weirdly enough, listening to white noise and ASMR as I read helped the most. It helped quiet my constant thoughts and the outside world and made me focus on just the book I was reading. Just finished An Education in Malice which I couldn't put down.

Also videos about fanfic...was basically raised on fanfic since there wasn't really any popular queer books/tv shows out there when I was growing up and realizing I was queer so I had to find it myself, so v interested to see what that video is about. Rereading my favorite series almost always gets me out of a reading slump. And then similar to a reading slump, sometimes I have trouble picking a book when I have so many I want to read (and usually im reading a lot of books consecutively in the same genre). What happens I'd I try reading one of the books but I'm so ready to read one of the others that I'm not enjoying it. So when this happens I have to switch genres. Recently happened this year. I read all fantasy and I have so many I want to read, but mid-march I switched to nice and fluffy romances and I've read a good 10 books since then 😅🙃

I like similar romance books to your taste: with emotional dept. Last year Abby Jimenez brought me out of my reading slump. It started with Part of your world and than continued with Yours Truly. These are my favourite contemporary romances now. They have wonderful audiobooks and you can buy them in your BotM subscription I think. Happy reading Hannah! 😊

same boat omg I would acc recommend trying some comics or manga! I find them very accessible when I’m not in the perfect mood to read. A personal series I lovvvee is Giant Days. It follows three friends through college shenanigans and every character is so memorable and the art style is super lively. The characters are all weird and imperfect but they’re also sweet and thoughtful. It’s not a series reliant on cliffhangers but once I started reading it, I couldn’t stop :)

I LOVED Legendborn!!! I read both books in a few days and I can’t stop thinking about them. Unfortunately those are the books that PUT ME in a reading slump and now I’m trying to find something else to read 😭😭

I've been struggling so bad with a reading slump. I read 2 books In March when I usually read like 7 a month. I'm currently reading a book that's part of a series I'm reading which is really helping. Staring at my full and unread bookshelves is making me sad. I also went to the library and got a graphic novel short story collection called 'through the woods' and that's been great because its spooky, interesting, and really easy to read.

I am a mood reader, so sometimes, it takes months before I finish a book. Of course, I always have many AO3 tabs open, so I also always read fanfiction, even during my book-reading slumps.

My tip for getting out of a reading slump are binging short books : - novellas : i recommend The Deep by Rivers Solomon - manga : i started reading Yona based on your recs, i also love spyxfamily and plan to start attack on titan -middle grade books/series And also prioritizing sequels and finish series to feel even more productive! Hope this helps❤️

The first and still only book i read by otessa moshfegh was death in her hands. I think you would really like it. First i thought it was a simple and and underdeveloped book but i found myself thinking about it A LOT after reading it and loving it now!

I'm sorry that you’re in a reading slump. I know the feeling and it sucks, and I hope that something will put you out of it. For me, rereading favorites works. That aside, I would LOVE to see videos on the things you've watched. It's fun to see you discuss every piece of media, I still love the video you made about your favorite tv shows :) I would love a part 2, if you’ve found enough new faves! On the topic of movies, this year I've watched Hedwig and an Angry Inch, a musical about a drag queen born in the same year that the Berlin Wall was built. She was raised in East Berlin, but moved to the US with an American officer. The story explores her journey to herself, her love life, and struggles she overcame. And the music is AMAZING. I watched this a few months ago and I can’t stop thinking about it nor listening to the soundtrack. I don't remember hearing you talk about it, but knowing your tastes I think you'd at least appreciate it. Wishing you the best!

Hannah, I highly highly recommend "The Enlightenment of the Greengage Tree" by Iranian novelist Shokoofeh Azar. It's set right after the 1979 revolution and it's magical realism, Persian folklore, grief, freedom and politics. Plus, the writing style is so incredibly poetic! I'm sure you'll fall in love 💓
