I really want The Secret History to be made into a movie, but I’m also so worried that it would be bad, that maybe it’s best that it remain “unfilmable”.

i feel like if it were to be made into something for the screen it would have to be a series or a mini series, like condensing donna tartt's mammoth of a book into a 90 minutes feature would be impossible and i feel like there is nothing throwaway in the book

Love the movie discussion, BUT! The main point here is the bookshelf. You've organized it! The clothbounds are of course stunning, looks great. Now, I desperately need a video where you talk about your current setup. I realize I'm way too invested in your home library, please excuse the unhinged nature of what is to follow. Seeing you build it had a strong parasocial impact, like I feel your bookshelves are also my bookshelves, and not knowing what's going on with them is lowkey stressful. Your book collection is my Paul Mescal. I only want good things for it, even though it doesn't know I exist.

There is in fact an amazing movie based on one of Claudia Pineiro's books. The movie and book are called Thursday Widows (Las viudas de los jueves). It's an Argentinian movie from 2009, and it's about four couples living in a luxurious private neighbourhood in Buenos Aires, the secrets they keep and the price they have to pay to keep the facade of a perfect life. It is in Spanish, but i'm sure there must be subtitled versions.. I hiiighly recommend it!

There's a book called America is Not the Heart by Elaine Castillo. It's about several generations of a Filipino family living in the Bay Area in the 90s. It delves into history, immigration, family, love, and it features a lot of music too. The whole era and setting would make for an amazing TV series with a banging soundtrack. I also could picture The House On The Borderland and Glamorama as pretty adequate movies as well. Maybe Blood Meridian as well, but that's such a great book it could easily be botched, most movie versions probably wouldn't do it justice.

Don’t know if you know the work of Jane Borrodale. Two period novels called The Knot and The Book of afire are both wonderful and would make really atmospheric films. I know that Clare Keegan is a favourite of yours and they are filming Small Things like These with Cillian Murphy. I agree about Small Pleasures and that any of Clare Chambers’s books would make great films. So would Late in the Day by the brilliant Tessa Hadley. Love your vlogs.
