3 star ⭐️ Liked it a lot, but it wasn't a special read for me
2 star ⭐️ I can see the merits, but it wasn't for me
1 star ⭐️ Nope. Just nope.

I love reading books about books as well as Librarians, Bookstores and Libraries! I cried reading the ending of The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry. I am really looking forward to reading The Sinister Booksellers of Bath, Remainders of the Day by Shaun Bythell (which is a nonfiction book in a diary form of sorts who owns The Bookshop in Wigtown whose first book was called The Diary of a Bookseller) , Once Upon A Tome by Oliver Darkshire, The Library: A Fragile History by Andrew Pettegree, Arthur der Weduwen, The Mortal Word by Genevieve Cogman and The Last Bookseller: A Life In The Rare Book Trade by Gary Goodman. I have quite the long list of books about books on my shelves that I am hoping to get to eventually. I loved Mr. Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore!

Hey Beth. If you love books about books I would recommend an Australian book called “The Wattle Island Bookclub”. It was sad, beautiful and mysterious.

Having read Wrong Place Wrong Time and listening to your worries about the Groundhog Day trope, I’m so so keen to hear your thoughts once you read this! I think what it does is going to be so unexpected 🫣

I don't think I can say 'books about books' but books that involve books that's on my TBR are The Reading List by Sara Nisha Adams ; The Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz ; The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde and The Book Eaters by Sunyi Dean Really want to read Carlos Ruiz Zafon at some point soon

Hi Beth... I would also add 'If on a Winter's Night a Traveler' by Italo Calvino. The shortest premise is that the protagonist buys a book titled 'If on a Winter's Night a Traveler' but finds out that the book is misprinted and have some other story printed in the first half of the book. Then he goes back to the bookseller where the bookseller tells him that he can exchange the faulty printed book with the new edition; but he ask for the book that is misprinted instead. and then he goes on a journey to find that book which leads to another. The writing is just pure genius!!!

You should read "Reading Lolita in Terahn: A Memoir in Books" by Azar Nafisi.

Thanks for the reminder to grab The Sinister Booksellers of Bath! I loved the first one and was so excited to hear it was getting a sequel. My unconventional recommendation would be A Conspiracy of Truths and A Choir of Lies by Alexandra Rowland. They aren't about books but they are about storytelling and the power of stories to change the world (for good and bad). The protagonists are practitioners of an oral storytelling tradition, but the books gave me a similar feel to the books about books genre.

I loved all three of those books by Natasha Pulley - all five stars for me. I haven't read her two more recent books yet. I think my favorite book about books, or perhaps more the love of stories, is The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern. I also really enjoyed The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. I read that one so long ago I've forgotten the plot, but I remember it was about books. Have you read The City of Dreaming Books by Walter Moers?

Other books about books - (1) The Book Jumper - a family can go into books and fix the storylines. (2) The Unwritten Library series - all unwritten books occupy a library, stored in hell, and the characters keep trying to break free and meet their authors. (3) The Invisible library series (multiple world veering either towards chaos - fae worlds - or logic - dragon worlds) and certain variations of editions can cause huge power swings, so The Library, an independent power, goes to these worlds to trade for or steal the books back to maintain the natural chaos/logic ratios. (4) The Midnight Library - A suicidal person in purgatory is able to choose the choices they didn’t make on earth and live out that life to see if they still want to live. (5) The Starless Sea - I don’t know how to describe this except there’s a secret library universe underground where physics and chaos doesn’t work and nothing is explained. (6) The Lending Library - a woman’s local library is closing so she opens a lending library in her sunroom and a very sweet tale ensure of love and heartbreak and rescued peoples.

I always enjoy your videos, and totally share your passion for books about books! I've read 3 out of the 4 Zafon wrote. Hopefully I'll get to the last one soon. May I recommend you "Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress" by Dai Sijie and "The Uncommon Reader" by Alan Bennett. Both gravitate more towards discovering the pleasure of reading.

I love books about books! i'm a bit scared reading Zafon.,because I've read Shadow of the wind more than than ten years ago now and it had such a big impact on me. The story . the characters amd the atmosphere especially. Kinda scared to read anything else setting in this world, because Im scared it's not gonna be the same..

Hey Beth! Love your videos. I have one question about shadow of the wind. I was so excited to start it but the sexism was a bit too much for me personally. do you think its worth ignoring and continuing the book?
@BooksNest
@BooksNest Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I'll be totally honest, I can't remember the specific details of sexism in it as it's been a while since I've reread it - but I can say the fourth book centres mostly around a bad ass woman as a main character and I think she was really awesome!
