POLITICAL CHAOS?! Adding A memory called Empire to my TBR. I'm finding so many new books that might fit me through your videos, even if it's books you aren't loving you explain them so well that someone who might love them (like me) can see the appeal in them!

That is so wonderful to hear! I feel like that's always the goal that if I know I've read a good book that didn't work for me trying to find the reader that would love it 😊

i love hearing your in-depth thoughts on why you're choosing what for each category. i may have to do that myself once voting wraps up for why i go with each title i do. and i'm so happy you enjoyed my review! i agree that i think a memory called empire will have a longer lasting impression on me than many sff i read. i can't wait to reread it honestly, it feels like something that would just get better each time you go back.

I would love to hear those thoughts! I totally get judges waiting till after voting, I figure I am just in the popular vote and didn't want to wait too long after finishing to put my thoughts out there 😊 And I totally can't wait to go back and re-read it with more focus now that I know what to expect from the plot and getting focus more on these themes and culture I really loved ❤

Fun way to break it down by all the elements like themes and such. I’m not as experienced in some things like using technology to solve issues as a SFF trope. Thanks for sharing!

I mean SFF just has a lot to it cause dystopian can be sci-fi too right and there is not always technology there but then you have a futuristic society structure as what I would call the "scientific element" but none of these were dystopian. Idk I feel like Gideon the Ninth being a "sci-fi" book was such a marketing device cause I read a lot of fantasy, and its fantasy lol

I'll add that to my TBR. I don't have a *lot* of history with space operas, but I actually dig the ones I've experienced. I'll definitely keep my eye out for that one

Michael Knipp I have no idea if its remotely like Dune cause its been 4 years since I read it but I was reminded of it while reading Memory Called Empire.

A Memory Called Empire will probably end up being one of my favorite books of all time. I need to reread it before the second one comes out, but I'm still thinking about it constantly almost a full year after reading it. I am so happy everyone is picking it up now.

I like the way you didn’t base it only on enjoyment - since it is an awards vote, I like that you were more systematic 😀. I’ve been recommended Recursion by a number of people - it definitely sounds like something I would like!

Yea it felt weird doing only enjoyment although there are no rules. And I think when you want some fast paced plot you would like it! Although I have heard more consistent good things about his book Dark Matter which I hope to get to eventually

Of these, Recursion was by far my favorite. But behind that, I feel like I could see more people liking A Memory Called Empire than Gideon (though I really didn't love either).

krakentoagoodbook oh yea I think Recursion was my favorite reading experience but I also keep think about A Memory Called Empire and actually bought the ecopy after I read it for a reread. I don’t think I will have reread Recursion

@@LiteratureScienceAlliance I think I may have gotten rid of my copy of A Memory Called Empire, but I don't entirely remember lol. But yeah, I can see how that one would be more of a reread possibility than Recursion!

I'm gonna check out all three of these - Gideon the Ninth and Recursion both have 8 or 9 holds on audio and ebook but the audiobook of A Memory Called Empire is available immediately, so yay!

Yay!! Hope you have a good time with it, I just found the world building so wonderful and honestly some of the best female representation I have seen in a space opera (since before this I typically read more of the older classics in the genre)

I have been very intrigued about a memory called empire. I tried to read Gideon the night and I just could not do it. I DNFed it. I agree with you, it has to many things going on, and from what I read it was not very based on a science principle, it just was sci-fi because it was in space. Very good video!

Yea Gideon the Ninth unfortunately was a miss for me but I can totally see why people do love it, it is unlike a lot of things I have ever read. Memory Called Empire is so worth looking into though if you have the opportunity! The sequel comes out this year but its also a self contained story.

It is one of the best space operas I have read, granted I am not the most read in that genre but the world building and characters are just stellar. Only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is that political plots aren't always super engaging to me so there are moments were I checked out but there is so much good here.

Literature Science Alliance I haven’t read a lot in the genre either. It is something that I’m interested in reading more. Hopefully I’ll add this to some of the books I really like.

I wouldn't know, I need to get to Dark Matter but I also want to give it space since I know they are similar to some degrees (but I do think the scientific tool is different). Although I am annoyed cause I think I got spoiled so I am trying to avoid Dark Matter content and hoping in like a year I have forgotten it so I can go in fresh haha
