I grew up listening to bootlegged Band Tapes of Jackson State vs Southern in High School. Years later I went to college, created one of the Internet's First sites for Black College Bands and named an unnamed classic, The Boombox Classic. Commander - the mello player you are referring to is my son and he is Puerto Rican! SU was his first choice college and we are very proud of him. He grew up watching HBCU bands and marched for a show style high school here in Augusta, GA. He is a crab this year and we are very grateful to Mr. Jackson for the oppurtunity he gave our son to be part of such an EXCELLENT AND HONORED BAND!!!

this just proves that anyone of any race can be part of a great show band.....which happens to be a HBCU band.......i am hispanic aswell.....i am yet to graduate high school and southern is my first choice for music.....

Love Southern University, but Jackson State University brought some in this one. Love seeing black college do something with these young black adults. Gives me pride knowing they are in something good instead of seeing them or hearing them in some other Institute. Each school had a good showing. Never went to college. I did the Military thing. I am going to one of the games in the near future to see the bands. I am in Alabama, but would make a weekend if it to see Southern University. GOD Bless

SU B-tones were really strong this game, especially early on. They were bringing heat. There were even a couple songs that SU's bones were well above what I expected

Now I usually don't favor the Boom over the Box...but that "I Don't Like" was so good and ratchet to me! SU got em on everything else tho. Awesome SWAC ratchfest!

My opinion: This is a very clean and balanced JSU. Unfortunetly, it seems like they traded in that power they had for cleanliness; On the other hand, SU has a good combination of both which is why I say they take the win. JSU needs to bring back the power they had last year while not sacrificing any of this year's balance, and they'll be straight.

The 3rd song for Southern...that Trumpet didn't have to hangover like that just to be heard. Both bands were good to that point. JSU so much more balanced this year though.

i talked to a former SU band member and he told me since su added on to their band that their music sounds more cluttered with all the additions.. he siad he was marching all male band with 120 piece band they had more clarity but was just as loud...
