Wishwell Farms Produce

Wishwell Farms Produce

Ай бұрын

Filmed on June 14-15, 2024. In this video I will show you two very important pieces of equipment we use on our farm for applying crop protectants. Also, some zuchinni harvest with hail damage, spraying some sweet corn to prevent corn earworm and finding the very first ear of sweet corn the season. Although we do spray conventional insecticides on our sweet corn silks we do spray organically labeled products on our other vegetable crops to control insect pests.

I can keep morning glory at bay in my corn I plow, disc, prowl and atrazine. Everything thing else I till lay plastic spray prowl plant and by middle of july we will be fighting it till end of season. Colorado state university is supposed to get me some mites next year that live on morning glory only and eradicate it. Will try them in one field and see if they work.
@wishwellfarms
@wishwellfarms 29 күн бұрын
Yeah, morning glory is never a problem in corn because the corn herbicide kills them no problem. It’s just in the raised beds with my other vegetables. Hopefully those mites will work for you.

I know what you mean about morning glories. I ended up covering my whole father's 8 foot by 20 foot garden in geo textile weed barrier fabric to finally get them under control. And it still took a few years to really kill them off good because they would still keep coming up close to the plants.
@wishwellfarms
@wishwellfarms 29 күн бұрын
Yeah, they are terrible in my veggie field but are not anywhere else on the farm, may have to rotate out of that field. Other weeds like giant ragweed, jimson weed, lambsquarter and smart weed are easy for us to control. Mairstale is getting bad in some fields too.

Try working your pre emergent into the soil (incorporate it) if you already aren’t
@wishwellfarms
@wishwellfarms 29 күн бұрын
obviously that is the best way when possible but I usually try to time it right before a rain and let the rain incorporate and that works great...less labor, fuel and wear and tear on machinery.

Have you tried Valor for morning glory control? Safest is to put it out before transplanting. If you do it after transplanting there’s a risk of that first rain blowing it or the dirt particles on top of the plastic and burning your crop.
@wishwellfarms
@wishwellfarms 29 күн бұрын
Seems like I've used Valor for something in the past maybe berries?? not sure, but it sounds familiar. Thanks for the tip I will look into it. Btw, I would love to come and visit your farm during my off season, I know that you will most likely be in your off season as well but I would still like to meet you sometime and see your farm.

My zucchini started to come on great and then they started to get soft on the end I don't know if zucchinis can get blossom end rot or what they're lacking. pretty frustrating
@wishwellfarms
@wishwellfarms 29 күн бұрын
We get that sometimes too on the first few harvests but normally come out of it...part of it is just that early plantings often are stressed when growing from the cold and other factors and it inhibits movement of certain nutrients through the plant even if the plant is fed everything it needs. Of course, it could be a fertilizer definciency as well. Yes, its very frustrating...happens on our field tomatoes about every other year with blossum end rot but they always come out of it.

Hey sir I had a question! I just ordered some 73 day RR sweet corn to plant. Do u think if I get it in by 4th of July I'll be ok? I've never had 2 or more different plantings of sweet corn. I just wanted your thoughts. We don't usually get a frost till October.
@wishwellfarms
@wishwellfarms 29 күн бұрын
Yes that will be perfectly fine. Our last planting is July 15 and it will be a 75 day variety and it's always made it before frost.

a perfect opportunity for ingenious person looking to enter a market. Man cart $4500 I'm guessing China already has one for $1000. Absolutely has to be a cheaper better solution. maybe even automate it with GPS for $4500 (spray drone on wheels)

I've never seen another sprayer on the market with atomizers that can spray straight undiluted product, maybe there's something out ther but me and many other small produce farmers rely on this machine because of that...worth every penny when you see what it saves us in the end...tens of thousands of dollars each year.

@wishwellfarms
@wishwellfarms 29 күн бұрын
those are nothing like this, the atomizers allow you to spray pure undiluted product right from the jug, so 1 quart will last an entire acre. Yes its expensive but well worth it to have clean veggie patch and has saved me tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years. There is a reason that so many produce farms are using these.
