best tutorials/breakdowns out there. You go above and beyond in a time where everyone puts out the same eq and compression techniques they ripped from the person before them ad nauseam. Thanks for the insight man, cheers

What I like the most on Mike's reviews and classes is that he really explains everything so well, so that you really understand how things work. That is so important in order to take the right decissions in different scenarios. The tipical youtube tip to make something sound great, normally will work perfectly on that specific situation, but won't work on many other mixes that you do. On the Boot Camp, that I am taking at the moment, Mike makes sure that you understand what is your goal when appliying a certain process, all possible scenarios, and different approaches to get the same thing. I think that understanding better how things work helps you choose the right process for each situation and solve it more effectivelly.

Hi Mike, I’m a Producer/Composer from Vancouver, Canada. I just wanted to thank you for the wealth of knowledge that you so generously share. I worked as a Producer, for quite some time. Somehow, I find myself back at the console. Your tutorials, have been effective in helping me to refresh and sharpen up my skills. Thank you!! DH

Thanks Mike this topic doesn't get covered enough! And it needs to be! The space where things live in the mix, and how to adjust said space is a topic that get's put to the wayside 99% of the time cause it's not sexy enough! Well it's more important than a fancy new preamp/compressor IMO! Thank you and if you could a more in depth scenario would be great! If you've got a class coming up talking about it let me know, I'll pay for that if I learn something!

Excellent tutorial. If your vocal was lower, so when you turn the volume up to be able to hear the the subtle changes, you don’t get drilled in the ear lol.

can using a stereo reverb bus send on a mono source like bass sample introduce any potential phase alignment issue in the mix?

Just curious, but in terms of the compression you're applying. Is making the part "breathe" enhancing the transient/adding punch to the part (to pull it forward in the mix)? vs Moving something back in the mix (dulling the transient, with the longer release) ? Thanks for the videos, they're really good.

Interesting thanks. Just curious. WHy do all this via AUX? Why not just use Mix Knobs on the plugins?

Ok, correct me if I'm wrong but I kinda still hear the bass clashing with the kick due the nature of kick sound which if we take a look at it in the analyzer , since the sound it's created from a sine wave it has a pitch....which it doesn't match harmonically with the bass. So when the bass and kick both sound at the same time (which isn't all the time due to the arrangement ) it kinda sounds like two bass notes clashing and that effect it's even more pronounced when all the processing it's activated. That's what I'm hearing.

There is this idea that the top guys of the industry are being cool dudes cus they are sharing a bunch of techniques on youtube, mostly in the box stuff that the average joe can try to do in his bathroom, yes, bathroom :D But, this migration phenomena happens mostly because there is not as much money for them in the game as before and so they partner up with plugin companies, gang up with other producers and do online courses and do a bunch of 10 tips about compressors and Eqs and mics and stuff that you look for online when you realize that your arrangements suck so, your mixes also suck and your pseudo-masters are even worse. Its a black hole really and what really matters is that you are engaged with them so you might, like, share, subscribe and buy a course or plugin they got for free or might get a sales comission. Its, for the most part, southpark^s episode where everything is at it^s core, a got damn add. There's a lot more to be learned from seeing these top dogs talking to each other about mix philosophy then actually seeing them altering the parameters on a compressor, "Oh and here I used the C1 just to give it a bit more "humph"!"... come on man! you tried 30 compressors on that sound over 1 hour and that's what ending up sounding the best, for you! And if the word of mouth is "less is more" than comes a new ass hole with a "more is more" approach to stand out and of course, we are virtual sitting ducks and of course, music is our religion so we are very easily manipulated by someone who can make something sound good The whole production community is very misleading and once youtube knows you are going the "produce like a pro" way to learn than you are fucked, cus the algorithm will be throwing shit like that at you everyday and of course there is good stuff to be learned from those guys but don't take them to seriously cus they dont take you seriously at all. Everybody has the same business model, a website that you scroll 1km down with testimonies and 100 reasons why you should get their products and refunds if you are not satisfied. Of course you are satisfied, you only have you to blame for your shit mixes! There is a lot better intention in guys like Mike White i.e. which actually teaches you the plugin and how to think about it. He knows his stuff inside out and he knows the teaching process inside out! You actually learn stuff even if you have the audio muted and the subtitles on! Thank you!

Yeah this dude is a God send. I’ve been beating my head against the wall for years trying to unlock the simple techniques Michael goes over in his videos. And he’s consistent! Each video ties into the other ones. He’s basically doing the same techniques for everything, which shows a clear objective. Those other channels are just chalked full of tips and tricks and no way of knowing when, where, or why.
