This is how loggers, wildland firefighters and the Forest Service in the Pacific Northwest lace their boots. I am demonstrating with Hathorn smoke jumper boots.
This is a very quick way to lace up your boots.

I'm 66 and figured how to do that when I was twelve on a pair of Vibram soled hikers, keeping the laces permanently knotted. Had gotten the boots in Colorado and carried them along as we moved to Virginia, wearing them incessantly. Actually repaired parts of the worn soles with tire rubber, glue and screws until I had a growth surge rendering them, sadly, unwearable. I was a clever kid but outgrew that also.

I am still trying to find a boot that I really like. I used to use Carolina, they were inexpensive comfortable and lasted a decent amount of time. I quit wearing those after the quality seemed to deteriorate. Then I went to Hathorn (smoke jumpers I think). They were decent. So far I like the lower end Whites boots I just bought. I have typically bought the cheaper boots because they are lighter weight and not as hot as the more expensive better built boots. The cheaper boots are starting to wear out too fast now. If these whites don’t last a decent amount of time, I may have to try the more expensive JK or Nicks.

I believe they are now Hathorn Line Scouts as the Hathorn Smoke Jumpers have limited sizes left. The line scouts are 350-390$ vs the White’s Smokejumpers 670$. Both are made by White’s Boots. If they are not rebuildable but resoleable they are Line Scouts as they are Goodyear Welted.
