Boots Riley is known for being an artist who knows how to get the conversation towards him. With projects such as 'Steal This Album,' 'Kill Their Landlord,' and 'Genocide and Juice' it's safe to say he enjoys blurring the lines when possible.
He speaks on his new film 'Sorry To Bother You' and what makes it so real. He also addresses why people were so excited and disappointment with Obama, switching the way you interact with different races in different environments, and some of the latest news from the Bay Area.

Loved the movie, loved all the literary references, especially Ionesco. Riley is such an intellectual, wish there were more intellectuals like him getting mainstream attention.

I’m Surrounded by homeless and I’d be homeless too if it weren’t for rent control here in SF. It’s unbelievable. People are literally starving to death and dying from needing medical. I think you’re referring to ‘Renovictions’ -the SF Tenants Union which youcan follow on FB breaks down what’s actually happening on all these issues and makes different laws and petitions more understandable for renters

The fire marshall, aye? Anyway, I saw the film last night and it's wonderful. The world needs to hear this man and receive his message. Get out the way Kanye, and make room for Mr. Riley.

This movie really feels like how I feel being vegan and knowing what happens to animals in any kind of animal agriculture... it’s right in front of people’s faces but no one cares. It’s a horrifying part of humanity and this movie really brought how I feel about humanity to light... how animals are treated is equivalent to how the equisapiens are treated.

This film was very disturbing -- I liked that the interviewer said he thought it was a "documentary." Agreed. We are living in dangerous times where wealth is now being accumulated at levels never seen before (where four families in America have more wealth than 1/2 the US population) and it's killing us.

hmmm, he characterized his own albums kinda inaccurately..but IMHO. I think album 3 was more bay hood. But all first 3 had a definite bay area thug swing to it even though they sampled dope breaks.

As a white person originally from the east coast where a small town saw its lone manufacturing industry wiped out last generation I thought the film worked because most people can relate to "What do I have to do to make ends meet these days?" as a mindset. It's a problem the large majority can relate to and grounds the film even when things get weird.

I've been a musical fan since "Dig it" dropped. I also liked the movie. I don''t agree with the whole "everyone white is evil" message that seems to be reaffirmed in The Coup music and movie. 🙄 I'm not going to spend my life being pigeonholed with ethnicity. Slavery comes from within. 💎💎💎

Can the lady interviewer get a word in edgewise? Love the movie but the revolution is sexist! I can't watch this dynamic any longer. Why even have her in the room? Men, step back.
