Bordeaux Tramway Scenes

8 ай бұрынDuring the Rugby World Cup in September 2023, I visited Bordeaux and enjoyed watching the busy trams running around the riverfront and past the Miroir d'eau near the Place de la Bourse, and the iconic Pont de Pierre bridge! The lack of overhead catenary wires enhanced the look of the trams and the surrounding areas! Hopefully more trams and light rail systems will be built without overhead wires, relying on batteries and the ground power!
Oh, that spot on the screen, is a speck of dust in my camera, which was very annoying. I have since gone to Apple to have the camera unit replaced.

a little fact: it is actually perfectly safe to Touch the rails, only the part of the middle rail fully under the tram is actually energized. parts not under the tram are deenergized and earthed for safety

I don’t want to test this, but yes, this is true. When walking, I usually step over the center rail instead of stepping on it. The ground power system would only work for longer trains. I wonder what the shortest train is for a system like this.

I should have explained this in the video. They were having a children’s race, on scooters! It was a fun, family day, although it was a bit loud playing on the speakers.
