This channel is one of the most valuable tactical information ever, if I had seen this in my teens or early 20's my life would be completely different. I wouldn't squandered my infantryman career at 25 in 2008 and now be a civilian at almost 40 and no degree, and can't do anything of this stuff anymore because of age. When I still have a fiery passion for it.

Oh to be young again, but alas I did my part when I was. Wish things were available like this back then, and could participate. Luckily we have young men and women who take up the baton daily to do their part in protecting the United States. Great video and hopefully more responsible and intelligent ones will come forward.

Sit on your ass because you chose too. Easy thing to do but that's why the hiring standards should look for candidates that are motivated to work. There are always lazy asses to fill those X's. Just like a city cop getting assigned traffic control at a street construction site. No diff.

Another thing too is that those from CBP (Office of Field Operations, and Border Patrol) are able to do a “transfer” to ERO. They used to transfer agencies without any academy, but not those from CBP attend a 4 week long gentleman’s course in Charleston, South Carolina to get familiar with programs used by ERO, CAP work, detention, and an intro to Fugitive Operations. For those same OFO officers and BP agents applying for HSI, they need to attend the CITP (Criminal Investigator Training Program) then the full HSI academy which is around 6 months, but you come out being a full fledged 1811 CI, so if you don’t like HSI you are able to jump around to any federal criminal investigation job you want.

I think it’s important to note that CBP has Custom officers who work at air ports and sea ports, and BP agents work specifically at the border. Similar to how ICE breaks down into HSI and ERO. Border patrol also has jurisdiction about 100 miles from the US borders and ICE take over from there.

That’s about right back in 2010 when I drove for daily deliveries from San Antonio to McAllen, through out the rural area in between I saw a lot of green. So that’s well over 100 miles from the border in between.

Very wrong. Border Patrol has jurisdiction over every inch of the United States just like every other federal agency. The difference is that under 100 miles from the border they are granted special laxed authority in regard to search and seizures that most other law enforcement officers (local and federal) don’t have. Outside the 100 miles their jurisdiction and authority for search and seizure goes back to being the same as any other federal law enforcement agency. Most people don’t know this because news outlets and social media has kept repeating this misinformation for years. Keep in mind, there is also a big difference between where an entity operates vs jurisdiction, they aren’t always the same.

Go Border Patrol if you want better law enforcement work. Go ERO if you want to do some kind of law enforcement work but want to live in better areas. Don't go OFO if you want to do anything related to law enforcement work. Go HSI if you can but only if you don't care about getting bogged down with casework 24/7 in some shitty border town.

BP is more of the traditional law enforcement work with shift work, and it’ll take you 10-15 years before you get weekends off. Nothing against BP, I loved it and missed it, but if you are raising a family, it becomes very tough to do anything with your family. ERO still has law enforcement work with the Fug Ops unit going out, doing recon and making arrests.

HSI works everywhere though. I'm in a major city in Florida and they're here. They actually were investigating me apparently for a bit lol. Didn't even know they existed before that and they cover a wide scope of things surprisingly

@@stephen8996 Yeah, HSI is in most big cities but unless you get lucky right out of the gate you'll probably get stuck in a border town. Most other offices are pretty small unless you're talking a major city with a lot of criminal ties to other countries like LA or NY. They do have a beefed up presence in FL because of all the foreign nationals with ties to foreign criminal organizations that live there. But relatively speaking the presence is still much smaller than say south Texas, Tucson/Phoenix, or San Diego, so odds are you'd be going to a border town because that's where the majority of the work is that's within their scope. And for the most part they have the widest range of authority, meaning the most criminal statutes to enforce except maybe FBI, but generally speaking it needs to have a nexus to a border crossing, which includes electronic data.

Not to mention catching terrorists. Yeah it's not traditional law enforcement ie kicking down doors. But it def is law enforcement. OFO has a broader mission objective than most agencies . The main focus is processing people but there still is an enforcement side.

@@asimdillard8956 I can’t say it was “easy”… it’s just a waiting game. Fitness test was easy. Only stressful process was the face to face interview (talk to law enforcement to get a feel of capabilities of a LEO) and I can see the Poly being stressful if the applicant has dirt or isn’t honest with themselves or administrator. Everything else is a waiting game.

As background, while ICE was created in 2003, its legacy special agents and staff that comprised ICE were the result of bringing together the legacy agencies Immigration Naturalization Services and U.S. Customs. HSI’s role in Counterterrorism (as you listed) continues to prove a power house with its partnership with FBI and in working with ERO.

If you're serious about staying in DHS then join the Coast Guard put some time in then transition to an DHS LE component and get hired at a higher grade as opposed to starting off as a GS 5 or 7

@@brandoncortezemmanuel357 yes. They did as well as Customs (there are legacy BP pilots and Customs pilots) but not anymore, everything now is AMO.

Just remember this: Special Weapons And Tactics ( SWAT) are neither Special Forces ( Army), Special Warfare ( Navy), Special Tactics ( Air Force) , Special Operations Capable ( Marine Corps MEU ( SOC) and Coast Guard MSRT). Similar does not mean the Same, and, Para Military is not Military.

All of you act like these terms have been trade marked. SWAT can be special forces just like Spetnaz are special forces. Anything outside the bread and butter can be labeled "special". It's just a word like operator. I would be insulted to be referred to as an operator because I don't run heavy equipment or machinery.
