SO. This is kind of a tricky ship for me because I do love Astarion and Shadowheart’s banter, and I was really shipping them during early access… but I just don’t see them together upon full release. And I don’t really like the way Astarion behaves for the majority of his romance towards PC (it especially irked me in the second act with Orthon, like at this point Astarion is supposed to be catching feelings, but he pulls a Fenris with yelling at you and throwing vile accusations). Shadowheart is my absolute favorite and she just deserves better. 😹
In all seriousness, though, in their good routes they want very different things from life, and um… In their evil routes they don’t give a f about anyone so ultimately what’s the point. But I’ve spent too much time on them in my first two playthroughs and recorded hundreds of gigabytes of video. It just seemed like a waste not to make… something.
Plus, I heard this song and I originally wanted to make this vid… more messy, but I ended up replacing most of the vampire lord Astarion things in it because the whole vampire lord Astarion route makes me mad lmao. & with his evil route, especially playing as Shadowheart, that just puts her in the place of being abused by Astarion instead of Shar and… nope, just nope. And we don’t even get fangs to show for it! I wanted to at least see my girl with fangs, ah well. xD So yeah, all the ‘on your knees’ and other bs went out the window and this vid turned out way less problematic than originally planned.

And pretty much all the companions hit on each other in party banters. 😂 So any ship is arguably canon. Well, except for maybe Wyll who's mostly only hitting on Lae'zel and gets shut down by Shadowheart straight away for it.

I never considered them before but the longer I've thought about it... the more I think their relationship would have a beautiful poetic nature to it. She runs from the light, while he loves and embraces it. Astarion is running from his abusive master while she is unknowingly running towards hers. Shadow is indoctrinated to believe her abusive master is unlike Astarion’s-but he can make her see the truth and redeem her. After she overcomes her abusive master in Act 2, she now has the experience and insight to help Astarion overcome his own master in Act 3 so he does not end up the very same monster-thus redeeming him in return. What's more sad is that he loses the sunlight at the end despite loving it so much and Shadow (who initially took it for granted) gets more of it than she ever dreamed of by becoming a convert to Selune-with a newfound appreciation for light and life given to her by Astarion. Redeemed Shadow with white hair can also twin with Astarion so it has that aesthetic vibe on top of it.

@@Kanikanihia He does, but she has always seemed rather cold in response. But frankly, she is such a princess, she doesn't fancy Wyll's compliments either. What I like about this ship is that she seems to be the only companion who can keep him in safe, surprisingly. And they have a lot in common as well, Me and my friend are playing as them in a text role-play game and having a blast with them both. Didn't know Neil ships them, good to know!

Beautiful, and a lot of work, Astarion origin, Shadowheart origin, with good and evil routes even, with mix their dialogues as companions, with dream visitor hug (because we need more hug options in the game) crazy, so much details And song is perfect This the most beautiful romance video from BG3 Thank you! Oh wow, despite the problematics listed in the description for this ship, this video is such perfection. But also, I feel like in order to get this material you had to play both as Astarion and Shadowheart, and replay both ascended and non-ascended Astarion storylines and Shadowheart's various choices in her quest as well? Or maybe you had a quicker way to do it but regardless, that is some dedication! And it resulted in something magnificent!

omg I can't believe! This is so beautiful! Shadowheart×Astarion is such an underestimated ship. They share similiar manipulated past. I wish to make a video about them but it takes too much time to collect the scenes. Love your amazing work. I'm going to cry😭Love them so much! IKR? I can't decide if I want them to be a tragic dark powercouple or a sweet light one that found redemption together, so dunno how to play, but I want them together so badly.

Thanks! I'm not finding those clips though, all that's in my vids was recorded by me, often with free cam hence the angles that aren't normally in the cutscenes. :) If you do decide to play as Astarion, IMO it's very frustrating with him as a silent MC. :'( I wish they fully voiced the dialogs at least for origin characters, 'cause for me Astarion pretty much loses his whole personality if you play as him. And he's the companion with the most content, like Wyll for examples has around 6k voice files while Astarion has more than 9k, so with him almost not speaking… it just feels like something is missing.

My very first run was Shadowheart origin, but I romanced Gale (and still see them quite a good couple with their goodnesses) until act 2 and some scenes with Astarion. All my next runs I ended up with him 😂😂

One reason I really want to play origin Astarion is see things that you don't get to see normally, especially the encounter with Cazador. Plus I thin things are slightly different when the group finds out he is a vampire. Though I will miss his voice, it's a tough price to pay, but I'll pay it. Imagine if you could play as an origin character and have them fully voiced, I bet it would be similar to your video ^-^

My goodness this was so beautiful I'm in tears!! I can't help romancing him in every playthrough and always said that if I play as either of them I will romance the other cause I ship them so so hard. He flirts so much with her if you have them in the same party and she teases him too, though she can be quite unkind, but there's so so much tension between them that it's impossible not to ship them. I legit ship any companion couple except the ones that break up Wyll/Karlach. The only way I'm okay with that OTP getting broken up is if Tav or Durge is involved. I get why Halsin and Minthara aren't origin characters, but I would love to see an enemies to lovers arc for them. Also, I kinda wish the companions you weren't romancing in a given run would pair off with each other. There wouldn't have to be a default pairing for each one it could be something the player could manipulate somehow.

This was amazing and really well done! I have a question. When two legacy characters romance do they have extra scenes and dialog. I saw a lot of romance scenes I’ve never played. But I’m guessing that’s because they’re ones from romancing Astarion. I’ve romanced shadowheart but never heard or saw a lot of this dialog. Does it trigger if you play as Astarion romancing shadowheart?

And I also don’t like Astarion when we are killing Orthon. It was hard to bear. I wanted to yell at him - go ahead and kill him by yourself with any way you wanted -, or even to punch him. But I think he’s there under the emotion to learn the truth. Well, he was saved by the confession after😅. But it’s even weirder if there was a confession after Araj, and then his behavior with Orton. It’s full of his lines that made me incredibly angry.
