1. To take a posture of Openness and a Nimble attitude 2. Open to multimodal treatment - not stick to one because the illness is multifaceted 3. Listen more - to encourage patients to open up to their core beliefs 4. Curiosity 5. Explorative sessions 6. Confronting/integrating contradictions in alliance building within their narratives 7. Multifactorial mental illness - use language that is constructive to the patients

As a child who was raised by a narcissistic female (not just me, but 3 siblings, as well), it is definitely NOT new...and if you knew what they were back in the 90s, it had negative connotations back then, as well. ...and if you were raised by one, it's very likely you may not have known what was wrong with your parents as a toddler or young child, but you knew there was something wrong with them because no other adult acted like they did, and that was a negative connotation 40, 50, 60+ years ago, too. The only person who thinks "narcissist" has a positive connotation to it is a narcissist.

she is saying something different. Nowadays narcissists are the new witches to haunt and burn. If a clinician treated a narcissist with this persecuting punitive attitude, he or she would only break the therapeutic alliance and make the patient leave. Read "Disarm the narcissist" and you will see for yourself. Dr Ronningstam seeks to heal the patient, her colleague annihilates them.

BorderlinerNotes, have you ever asked one of these experts (or can you ask) if it's possible for common people to gain an understanding of and to utilise techniques from these treatment modalities while dealing with people close to them who have these personality disorders? I'm amazed that therapies like TFP exist but I can't find a practitioner in my country, let alone convince my narcissistic husband to start and stay in therapy for 1-3 years.

@@kevinhornbuckle Yeah let's not have a discussion. These monsters are on the loose. You obviously have a privileged and isolated life to not understand.
