Loving this series. About the only positive of the lockdowns is the treasure trove of wilderness canoeing adventures I have enjoyed. In our younger years we did lots of N. Ontario canoe trips and kayak trips. Now I do them with you guys !

Came across your channel other day Episodes 10 & 11 which were crazy. So starting at the beginning. Well done. I really appreciate seeing an area that is so remote and yet surprised to see camps etc. The caribou sighting was fantastic!! Didn’t realize they had dropped in population so much

@NorthernScavenger

Thanks for all the support Greg. You got it, if we were to lose a paddle in the rapids, there is a better chance that it would float and we would find it.

I was going to say in the last video where you guys found a 'campsite' - I was saying to myself, This guy doesn't understand how remote he is - that 'camping area' looks like it might have been a deer or moose nursery. ?

I've always wanted to do some back country paddling and fishing in Labrador but hiring a guide which is the only LEGAL way you can fish in Labrador is too expensive.
@Supergopher
@Supergopher 4 жыл бұрын
Very stupid question - Why did you choose that route through the hign of the land? Do you know how many canoists use that route in the recent past? Your portage preview to Labrador look like hell to me. I am very surprise with your fishing sucess on the De pas river. Where the hell were the trouts?
@NorthernScavenger
@NorthernScavenger 4 жыл бұрын
That's a good question David. We were heading East and we had to go through a large watershed that flowed North. If we were to go with the flow we would have ended up in Ungava Bay in the Arctic Ocean. As far as we know, we are the only modern team to make this specific link though we relied on trip notes from past paddlers through certain sections.

Hate to ask this question, especially with all of the great video you have been posting of your journey through one of the last great untamed wilderness areas on earth. However, I find it a bit discouraging to see all of the litter left around the abandoned Innu camps. Sort of disappointing to see that not everyone adheres to the principle to leaving the wilderness as one found it.
@poochie49
@poochie49 4 жыл бұрын
You will see many of these type of camps all over the North. Although they look abandoned most are used seasonally. They are not fancy dwellings but make do for their inhabitants. As for looking like dumps, well yes, but recycling facilities obviously don't exist. The good thing is that in relation to the immensity of the land these campsites are few and far between. One of the most useful building materials used up there are tarpaulins. Also most of the building materials are brought in during the winter when the land is frozen rock solid and travelling is much easier on snowmobile than by canoe. The scenery is spectacular. But let me tell you on a miserable wet,cold, windy day I can think of a lot of other places I would rather be. However on a sunny warm beautiful day ..that's heaven. And of course don't forget that in late June the days are much longer than down south. The bugs....well that's another issue.

Soon we have hunters hunting hunters, if only to save the species. Canada needs to stop the hunting by Americans in Canada.

Hunters did not cause the decline of the Georges river caribou herds. They destroy their ecosytem themselves. It's a natural cycle.
