That is quite a technical build Matty, very nice work indeed. I have one of those Vertex edge finders, and I've just about had enough of it, so I ordered a little electronic version off Aliexpress today, reasonably cheap at under A$15 delivered, I'm hoping it makes life a bit easier. 👍

Gday, I’ve had a gut full of my edge finder, the wriggler works quite well to be honest, thanks for watching

That is bloody brilliant - you must be well happy with that. Perfect fit and operation. That kind of result on a complex assembly only comes as a result of a lot of thought, care and attention. Very cool. Also - I never thought to attach a dial indicator to a boring head like that - so that's another tip in the toolbox. Cheers and best wishes!
@MattysWorkshop22 күн бұрын
Gday, there’s been a few sleepless nights during this build that’s for sure, mounting the indicator like this works really well, some people say you get a cosine error but I’ve never had a problem with all the bores I’ve done so far, appreciate you watching mate, cheers

G'day Matty, I've stopped this at the point you were talking about your vertex edge finder. I have the exact same tool and it's never bloody repeated properly ever. Ive ended up doing it ten, twelve times sometimes to try to average out where an edge is. So much so that I've bought one of the beeping, at touching the part, it's just a simple continuity circuit, only about £10 not one of the £100 ruby stylus ones I add lol. But it's fully ground and I've measured it with a mic and it's accurately parallel and I'm confidant it should work. Not tried it out yet but it must be more consistent than the Vertex edge finder. I'll watch rest of the build now lol. Watched it all now! Matty you're a true craftsman mate, that thing looks bloody awesome! Don't worry about a couple of little balls ups, as the old boys used to say if you're not making mistakes you're either making nothing or you're learning! Looking forward to seeing the boring facing head run next week. I think I'm not going to try to make one as I was going to scale it down to 50 or 60 mm in dia, but looking at what you did this week, I think some parts would be very , very fiddly to make. And a full size one is just too big for my little milling head

@rodbennett479023 күн бұрын
G'day Matty, I'm curious as to why you do lots of passes with a small end mill rather than less passes with a larger end mill? Is it simply because changing end mills takes so long?
