More like 5% of GDP. But he could not recall as Foreign Sec giving any secrets to Russian oligarch friends of Putin during the Novichok crisis as recorded at a select committee around the time of his ousting, having flown solo to Tuscany losing his security detail after a NATO meeting. The photo of him guttered at St Francis of Assisi airport was passed off as a "heavy night"

The way I see it, the real issue is more that such a large proportion of the electorate are ignorant morons, and our electoral system doesn't represent millions of us (whilst too often given an inordinate voice to said morons).

Do some basic research and you will find that amount plus much more has been thrown into the money pit called the NHS every year since 2016. Still not working but who cares let’s have more DEI officers at 100k plus rather than have health care. Maybe do some critical thinking rather than spout a factually incorrect statement of propaganda. NHS funding 2016 107bn 2023 funding 168.8 bn. 61bn of increase rather than your desired figure of 2.9bn. See how dumb that is? That is a budget increase of 57% since 2016. Source NHS !!!! Nice to see that there are 51 people that bought the factual incorrectness of your statement.

People watch it to see attempts to land a blow on the PM and the counters. Politics in Westminster is not about facts, that is far too sensible and boring. But what it shows is that Sunak doesn't answer questions, that revealed the self serving vacuum that is the current government. 🤡 Bojo 🤡 was put on record, then forced out when unsurprisingly the known liar selling delusion had lied yet again, having his party's popularity crashing and staying down because they cannot address the core reasons, which are the deluded policies. If they had a technocratic style scrutiny like select committee nobody would see it.

Now that Britain has so many challenges, I wish they could update their parliament into a modern civilized place that makes room for intelligent and constructive dialogues and solutions. The Tories needed a BS specialist to sell Brexit, so they called upon Johnson. But in doing so set in motion their own demise. The pandemic certainly did not help, but the general public were never going to see the sunny uplands, and the rebound was inevitable.

I live in the United States now but I like to keep abreast -- I just wanted to point out how refreshing it is that a right-wing outlet incorporates such a balanced view Over here, it's completely barmy, we have nothing of the sort -- news is either hard right, extreme right, or center-left and it's absolutely intolerable The center-right in the US has just been completely obliterated and it's pretty scary. When it comes to 'attack ads', negative campaigning, personality-tarnishing (deserved or not) comes from the polarising politics, indeed society, we have now. Everything is turned into a binary situation, there is no nuance. It's possible to question something without being for or against it; opinions are seen as facts.

In Dutch PMQs the prime minister does not get away as easily as the British PM. I have never ever heard a straight answer to a question from the opposition in the British PMQs. But then again, lying to parliament is a mortal sin in the Netherlands, unlike in the UK.

Don't remember the resignations? People genuinely cannot remember all the scandal, lying and rule breaking by 🤡 Bojo 🤡. Going solo after a NATO meeting during the Novichok crisis to get guttered with a Putin oligarch was one example of what the Tory press don't talk about, even after his admission in select committee when he at last faced questions about it

There's some surprising dishonesty here which undermines the credibility of the opinions expressed. 'Cleggmania' was real in 2010. His performance in the threeway leaders' debate genuinely moved the dial and, for a while, it looked possible the voters would split three ways. What didn't help on polling day was the first past the post system, and even then the Lib Dems secured over fifty seats and their first opportunity for a genuine share of power in nearly 100 years. I wasn't expecting this level of bias (or bitterness?) from this panel.

The problem for Clegg and the LibDems after the election, was that they effectively handed all power over to the Tories, and voted in-line with the Tories on matters that they promised they wouldn't. The electorate punished them in the next GE, and it's taken them almost 10 years to recover.

I am so sorry for the naivety of a Brit to claim that this horrible shouting and acting in your Parliament is because you are "doing a better job of scrutinizing your PM". It is such an ignorant comment. There are questioning hours in other developed countries as well. And it's utterly possible to ask really critical questions without shouting. You should try it.

I have been an Anglophile since age 12 (when Britain joined the EEC) and I am great fan of your podcast (especially of Lord Finkelstein). But I can't help being stunned (and more and more so) by the parochialism of political conversation in the UK. It seems the only influence you will ever ever acknowledge/validate is that of US politics (and God help you). Everybody else is up for any measure of disdain or scorn. Let's face it: You have the most ludicrous upper chamber on the Continent. And the House of Commons look like it's full of the hooligans which have deserted football pitches of late. But God forbid you'd take inspiration from other democracies (Scandinavians did away with their upper chambers altogether and Italy has now a 100-member senate). It does look like a political class clinging to any kind of perks it can manage and convincing the unsuspecting electorate they must uphold truly "British" institutions for the country to thrive in the future. It doesn't look good.

I am not concerned by the hysteria the press and plotters whipped up. You could find lies about Starmer if the press wanted you to be swayed. But I do not think Boris is PM material and that is what his party recognised. Neither do Tory voters think him conservative enough.

The volatility of the electorate reflects the fact we still have too many establishmentarians in parliament and the voter is shopping for something not there! It is more simple than that - Boris was brought down quite deliberately by the Left-wing within Government (in the form of the Privileges Committee (headed by the Leftie Harriet Hartman). He was Right-wing and believed in Brexit -so, he had to go - that’s it: however else it is presented, that is the truth of the matter!

Oh, the level of misrepresentation present in that comment is staggering beyond belief. Boris Johnson resigned as PM because 56 members of his cabinet and ancilliary staff, including Rishi Sunak, resigned over the lies Boris Johnson told about the Pincher affair. In case you have forgotten, on four consecutive days No. 10 sent a different MP out to apologise for the lie from the previous day, and then tell a different lie on behalf of Boris. The Priviledges Committee had nothing to do with his resignation as PM, but they did have a great deal to do with his resignation as an MP, as they should, he lied about Partygate in Parliament, repeatedly.

The problem is our governance by party. The public vote for the party, not for who the leader is. If the public voted for Johnson and not the party then they didn't understand how we vote in this country. The PARTY was voted in to govern, with Johnson as leader. The party had every right to remove him as leader without the public's consent.
