My favorite Yeltsin moment was when he walked up to Gorbachev as he was at the podium addressing the Russian Parliament, handed him some papers and stabbed a finger in his direction as he ordered "Read It!" The pause and look that Gorbachev gave him was priceless. As Gorbachev read the papers aloud, there was no doubt about who was now the Top Dog.
@xantraz4 жыл бұрын
And these papers were the reports of cabinet meeting, saying that Soviet Union is officialy over. Based af.

I lived in Moscow during this time, I can say while Russia's government was extremely corrupt, Boris Yeltsin himself seemed like a lot of fun and it was well known that he lived in the same apartment from soviet times. One interview (bez golstuk) told that he'd sit every evening on the same table in his kitchen and it's leg would always come loose causing the table to rock.

Also when Yeltsin took power, he was the first leader that admitted that Soviet Union had started the war, not Finland, that the Winter War happened because Soviet Union set up the so called Shelling of Mainila to set up Finland as the attacker. So in many ways Yeltsin seemed much more democratic and more open minded than what Putin and Medvedev are.But ofcourse this is just opinion from a person who doenst live in Russia,so I really can't judgebut in those aspects I respected and liked Yeltsin
