Elena's mother is really trying hard to understand and embrace her daughter. Her culture has given her a different view, but she's working to reconcile her love and she deserves MAJOR props.

You know what I love about people with Down Syndrome is that they don't have a filter whatever emotion they are trying to convey they can convey it very well a lot better than most of us humans! When they love you can feel the love that they give out and when they achieve something that's the best smile in the world! They are truly the world's greatest gift! I have ADHD + autism I am basically a functioning autistic person that's the best way my doctors could describe it to me and my mom! In high school I had AP classes in history science and language arts! Yes I graduated with a special ed diploma but I don't think I was any different from any other child that graduated I put the work in and met the requirements of the state of Georgia to graduate in 1995 when I was told before I got in the high school and early 1991 and I wouldn't graduate on time and then I would probably be in high school until I was 21! Not only did I improve the psychologists and my counselor is wrong I proved everybody wrong!

I am unfamiliar with DS diagnosis I know there is another form of DS called Mosacic Syndrome ( Sean I believe has it ) but to all those who make comments it is an extra chromosome just deal with it

I understand where Hiromi is coming from. It’s great Elena shows her emotions but I just watched a video of the cast accepting an award and it was a rather quaint event but Elena was doing a bit too much with dancing and yelling. Even though it’s a celebration, it’s celebrating a win not at an award ceremony not a football game. And with Hiromi’s culture I can see it can be a huge adjustment not only in traditional standpoints but in general.

The nerve of some of these parents... insulting people for apologizing out of just ignorantly being polite. Good gosh. I’d put MONEY on it...had THEY never had a DS kid, and didn’t know much about the syndrome, then met new parents who had a DS baby... THAT THEY WOULD’VE SAID THE EXACT SAME THING. It’s what normal people do when they don’t know what else to say. (Or maybe not- maybe they just would’ve shaken their head in disgust and turned the other way, since the ‘extreme’ seems to be a common theme there). &Idk if she truly believes that Sean is just like a “regular” kid, but he’s not. I’ve known a few DS kids and adults over the years, and not to be mean but...Sean seems to be quite spoiled, in a controlling, obnoxious sense and insists on it always being his way or no way. (May have something to do with his believing too, that he’s “just a normal kid” deal). The other parents don’t seem to allow their kid to behave radically. Even when poor Cristina was battling her jealousy over Angel...her parents did not jive with her behaving as such and nipped that right in the bud quickly. But when its not corrected, the result is NOT CUTE by any stretch. This show has certainly helped in educating the general public...(&apparently to learn what not to say). Overall, it’s a great show and absolutely heartwarming to see them grow and meet and exceed their goals. ❤️ I must admit...Megan and Rachel are my favorites- They are freakin hilarious. And Elena too- she has grown up so much, in such a positive manner from the first season! She has some great insight and is the serious voice of reason.👍

I love Rachel's parents honesty - they are right, it is a sad thing to have a kid with Down Syndrome. Sean's mom is so deep into her delusional fantasy world to admit why that would be sad. Why would Sean's mom say she was shocked that people said they were sorry that her son was SEVERELY MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY DISABLED? Why would that shock you? Of course people would say they are sorry that happened to you. It's a horrible thing to happen to any parents. Are you so delusional that you think a child that is severely disabled is what most parents would prefer to have compared to a healthy baby?

@@ginabell694 - isn't it obvious? The show is about people with the Intelligence of a 3yr old - even when they are 37yr old like Rachel. So one would say they were born incredibly stupid. It seemed super obvious to me. But happy to spell it out for you.
