@@FAKE-NAME Don’t glue anything with it. It only works on wood and fiberglass. It’s a marine adhesive only.

For what it is worth, rather than risk damage to the bill with chisels, you should try taking some braided fishing line and use it as a rope saw for cutting the 5200.

5200 is crazy good stuff. If you use a heat gun and warm it up it helps to release the bond.

The hardware is not straining much. I set a pilot house on some and backed it up but it never would have moved. It was a strong, strong bond that would rip up the deck before letting go. Good stuff for the right purpose.

Two suggestions, #1 wedge the engine instead of the whole bracket and #2 there is a chemical solution to remove 5200.

Seems the engine needed to be higher up at its mount. Wedging the engine is not going to do it.

@@robertp7209 Maybe and maybe not. This only raised it a matter of a couple inches tops. Wedging and raising the engine using the lower bolt holes may have worked and there would be no future worry about his wedging material shim correctly or work free over time, engine torque when accelerating and decelerating,.... and waves pounding it.

@@robertp7209 Agree - the bracket should have been higher to put the engine mount location where it needs to be. This just wasn't mounted in the right place .

The biggest thing that I took away from this video is that I need a new jigsaw. I have mostly to walk tools, and a crappy little jigsaw. Seeing how smooth that one operated made me realize it's time to expand my collection.

A way to stop gualing is to use hand tools to tighten your bolts. Less torque means less heat

I did something very similar on my 16' aluminum boat, I wedged a few stacked plates of 1/8 aluminum plate (welded together) between the transom and my jackplate and it made a noticeable difference.

For future installation of brackets, wrap a piece of 80lb mono or piece of dacron before using the 5200. Leave two tails accessible. When you or the next guy has to remove it, you can cut through the 5200.

I remember watch the boatyard guys take off an inboard prop strut and that 5200 took a layer of glass off with it , we called it 52-GLUE-HUNDREAD

Great video Aaron! You can never go wrong with 3M products! I saw a Verado at work today on a pallet destined for disposal. Had to say a little prayer and hold a service for it 🙏🏼 😭. But honestly I did think, now if I had that, how could I make it functional and what would it cost?! 😂 we have SafeBoats with Mercury power which get flipped out after reaching their designated service hours

They make shims for the motor. You just unbolt the motor put the shim in and bolt it back on.

You put the bracket on incorrectly by not compensating for the distance behind the transom where the motor is... Engineering rule of thumb is add 1 inch for every 1 ft. in your case it looks like the bracket moves the engine back by about 28-30 inches. I noticed your mistake when you mounted the bracket... It happens

lol Can't tell you how many times I have had to pull a bracket and it (5200)destroys the glass and gel coats, even had one rip the entire transom off . Amazing stuff, above water and things like your bracket could be installed with 4200 and save your transom possibly as well as having plenty of strength and seal power.

Being a Mercruiser guy, something about bracket physics scare me. Then again, I get to hang another sterndrive this weekend which is a bit like putting toothpaste back in the tube.

It might sound like a stupid question for seasoned boaters, but bear with me for a second: why not attach the engine to the transom directly (maybe strengthening the transom before, if needed) instead of put it on a bracket with all this work to do?

Sometimes moving the engine back is a performance upgrade. Some like that it moves all the “mechanicals” back off the transom, which creates more open cockpit space for fishing etc.

It basically kinda like tricking the boat and motor. If its a 22' boat and you put 24" or 30" bracket on the boat it will ride like a longer boat with the transom bracket.

This is why its important to measure your transome, and a used bracket to make sure it will work. or you will have to do things twice.

5200. Works great…until you need to remove whatever it’s glued to.🤣. I had a swim-step I wanted to move from starboard to port. Same issue. It held the entire boat up and would not go down without a fight. Never knew about the galling. Interesting. Thanks. Nice job, as usual.

Do you mostly cruise around (I.E. short distances) with that boat and go offshore a few times a year? Just curious as I live in Texas and most people with a boat that big only have 3-4 months out of the year to realistically take them offshore due to the winds on our coast.

Question, why dont you have a trim tab anode on that engine, just curiouse cuz i have a 2004 yamaha 225 and i have lost one already and just sae that you just have a flat one on your engine, is it beneficial or what

My old boat was a bracketed 23 center console. The bracket always leaked. I ended up putting a little automatic bilge pump inside the bracket. It had an old Mercury 250 EFI and could do 42 MPH at 5800 RPM. I'm surprised you're only getting 45 mph out of that 300 HP.

The type of propeller you have can affect your speed. Our boat can go 55 but we have a high pitch propeller on it so it only goes 43. We sacrificed speed for acceleration. It accelerates like a jetski.

@@UltraMagaFan and you have a low pitch propeller if you want to have more torque for getting out of the hole. A high pitch propeller is like being in a higher gear.

Salt water is BRUTAL to everything Metallic which is clearly why the addition of sacrificial anodes are so vital ... Use a router with the proper 1 inch flat milling bit then feather it was sander

Think the 5200 is a quick substitute for thickened epoxy the way people use it. If you want it gone you're cutting anyway.

That 5200 can be removed it's a tough job but I've done it and without damaging the boat. If you use slightly heated heavey duty putty knives you will speed up the process and use plastic wedges to keep spreading the joint as you use heated putty knife and cut the adhesive as close to the bracket as possible.

why didn't you see that when you fitted the motor. and wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to modify the bracket. seeing you know it didn't leak ect...

An old boat with new hardware is a gem. A new boat with cheap hardware is a problem waiting to happen. Marine stainless is king. The hull itself is what really matters. You can build a better boat than they did. I've done it more than once and I'm doing it right now on a welded aluminum boat that should last a lifetime. Start with the right hull. Look for a matching wrong hull with top notch hardware. Go new in critical areas and you will have a fine and seaworthy vessel you can depend on - Fail Safely 🙂 and pay attention to these vids.

Of course your fix is a lot better but why not just buy wedges for that fit between the motor and the bracket , I guess your trying the raise the bracket and the motor
