Whenever I'm writing melodies, I end up writing it exactly like a song I've heard but don't realise until I hear that song again.

This is brilliant. I have been learning from as many sources as I can, and writing as much as I can. This is probably the single most useful tip I've come across that I can remember. THANK YOU.

May I suggest how to write better chords too? Simply move your middle note one octave upper and duplicate your root chords an octave lower Hope it helps!

Yes! Look into 'Open Voicing' and also 'Inversions'

You don't have necessarily better chords because you space them of invert them. It depends of what color you want in your songs.
@hallocine
@hallocine 3 жыл бұрын
@@technober Yeah that can works. Inverting, spacing, repeating the tonic one octave lower, using sustain chords etc etc. These are just options for writing chords, there are no rules. Of course I you want a smooth chord progression, you always want inverting chords. But sometimes you don't want that. I think sometimes tutorials are too theoric. Music is not a rule (otherwise, it would be boring !). That's why I prefer using a midi keyboard instead of the mouth. You can find some interesting things just jamming. But that's just my opinion.

Nice tip man. I remember Afrojack using the same steal the cadence method a couple of years back in a livestream.

Wow! Such a simple but yet profound idea now that you mention it. I always seem to get lost by focusing on too many things at once when creating melodies - pitch, duration, rhythm, contour... too easy to get lost in the sauce.

Can you do a detailed masterclass from end-to-end of producing an electronic record (preferably something progressive house)? I'm pretty sure people would pay good money for that. If so, you should maybe look into hosting a course on sites like Skillshare or Udemy - I think you'd do pretty well!

I can’t because if I told you I’d have to kill you on a need to know basis you’ll steal my idea just after input from jules and what he would do? using different sounds from techno or either progressive vocal chops or and instrument or even trance would maybe work it’s all experimental sick of people coming up with the same ideas think outside the box music to me is about pushing boundaries.
