BOS Vessel replacement 2023

Жыл бұрынAfter 30 years of service, during which it has converted 57 million tonnes of iron into steel, BOS convertor 1 is about to be replaced.
Tata Steel's Head of PR, Tim Rutter paid Andrew Thomas and Steve Lott a visit in Port Talbot's BOS Plant to find out what's involved with replacing such a vital piece of kit, and why this project will be a little more challenging than 2019's replacement of convertor 2.

I remember probably in the mid 90s crawling inside the jacket of one of them to do welding repairs when it was down ridiculously hot

How often do BOS vessels need relining? I am guessing that your repairs were done during a re-line?

A lot of different trades came together to get that job done. Nothing gets fixed or built without tradesmen and women.

Well we recently change our 130tn 2 vessel with stack in jsw india 3rd one is in july last

Unfortunately, the new vessel won’t make even 1 mio tonnes as port talbots BF / BOF route is dead
