What most people are referencing are the materials that BOSE used to make the majority of their previous speaker products. Which were lower quality materials. They used spring clip terminals for the speaker wire connections for DECADES. For DECADES they used particle board to fabricate their speaker cabinets clad with thin wood grain veneer. For DECADES they used inexpensive drivers that were made of paper cones and foam surrounds. The 601 series you are showing here is when they finally upgraded the materials used in their home speaker products. For a company that some considered state of the art, on the cutting edge or the best in sound, they took a long time to make said changes when their competition had already done so years before. For a company that touts "Better Sound Through Research" they were slow to implement improvements vs their competition.

These 601s and the relatives, 701s are transmission line speakers. You must remember Bose bashers don't know what they're talking about. Look up inferiority complex; the key is not to go to their level. Everyone has different tastes and whilst I think some of Bose's designs implement some acoustics concepts in a perverse manner, the lot of their engineers are musicians and music lovers a like.

A friend has a pair of Bose 601 Series IVs. My 35 year old B&W DM 14s sound much more accurate, have better treble, and much tighter bass. My 803 Matrix Series II's blow them away. That being said, the Bose speakers were $600 two decades after the DM 14's were $1000. His 601's do sound decent on acoustic piano, but I would opt for some used B&W 600 series unless you need lots of loud, but inaccurate bass. He has great electronics. I don't know how he ended up with these speakers. A set of DM 14's can be had for under $300, and they absolutely will not blow up or deteriorate in sound quality. I used to run four of them, stacked like Advents.

Don't remember these having the cloth surrounds and not foam. Thought these were foam. They may have been redone. Pretty sure they are foam from factory. They do sound good for their size. Most ppl now don't buy towers they get nice bookshelf speakers and sub. Not bashing anything.

I have the Bose 601 V speakers, they sound spectacular, I don't know what the hell people are talking about that they don't sound good, you have to set the speaker level in the setup, you can make them louder or lower, most people are dumb-asses and don't know how to use their receiver, and blame the speakers, LOL!!

Maybe you should learn what a real set of floorstanders sounds like lol. A 6.5" sad as fuck paper woofer with a 3" "tweeter", unbelievable

@@ilpatongi We get it. Just because YOU hate Bose doesnt mean its a bad speakers. Ive heard these speakers irl and the are really impressive. And I own dcm 12a which is a really good floorstanding speaker. So I know what good sounds like

@@LSxHC Sound quality can't be a meter of judgement because it's completely personal. The only factual way to say a speaker is good regarding sound reproduction would be with a measuring microphone and a frequency response graph. Materials, weight, sound insulation, crossover components, those are factually bad or good and Bose is known for cheapness...

Some people say that Bose is only a name influenced by advertising and what not, and the speakers don't sound good compared to other speakers. But did these nerds ever asked themselves "What kind of music did they test their Bose speakers with ?". They need to test it with a real good Genre to expect what Bose was really created for and for what kind of people it was created for. If you are expecting Bose speakers to sound good by listening to a Church Choir or an Indian Bhajan then your not the Bose type. Bose is made with optimum Research for people who know how their music should sound like to their ear from different corners of your house. If you don't know your music, please be far from Bose & stop blaming Bose.....Simple as it gets.

Aqantas Software Bose is nowhere near high end...... Many of there products don’t necessarily sound bad but can generally be beaten by much cheaper products. Bose’s highest end systems can’t come close to my setup. Hell probably not even my second.

Also if a speaker or brand is so fantastic then it shouldn’t matter what you are listening to, it should all leave you with a breathtaking experience. My girlfriend refuses to go to the movies anymore because it’s such a lackluster experience. You won’t get that from a Bose system. Lows that shake the foundation, mids that you feel in your chest, and highs that are crystal clear and natural. I don’t take issue with Bose, as a self proclaimed audiophile I just wish more people had the opportunity to hear what high end audio actually sounds like. With the landscape of our economy many high end AV stores have had to resort to internet sales, preventing a large mass of people from ever truly experiencing audio nirvana. Movies are no longer just that, it’s an interactive experience that you feel apart of. Games are so much more engaging. Music is absolutely blissful, almost as if the musicians are performing right in front of you!

If you defend a speaker that sounds good with only certain types of music you're delusional. "Bose sounds right with real music" is the most retarded sentence I've ever read. Bose doesn't sound right, never

im agree, bose sounds nice vs iluminated led speakers (sony, panasonic) but vs hi-end speakers are really junk!

The series IV are a joke. The 601/III were the best floorstanding speakers ever made by Bose. From that to this is a disgrace. No wonder Bose quickly left the floorstanding speakers market after this.

FUCK OFF I HAD SOME 601 series three direct reflecting speakers rated at 200rms hooked up to a Carver amp rated at 225 per channel at 8 ohms. Those mother f-ers jammed. The bass hit hard and the tweets screamed at your ears. And the sound was so clear. However...I have had other Boze that sound like shit!!!! Depends on how they make the Box
