I play a Magic the Gathering Online Vintage league with Unpowered 8-Mulch, a deck from Patreon subscriber Rob. When looking for an unpowered or budget Vintage deck, there's always the option to play an existing deck with less-powerful cards as replacements for the expensive stuff. But what if you built a deck that didn't need or want Power 9 from the ground up? This Legacy port uses Vintage engine Fastbond in a deck that wouldn't benefit from having power in it anyway! Turn 1 Marit Lage off turbo dark depths combo, or grindy Wasteland/Strip Mine locks, main deck hate for the big players in the format... who needs Power anyway? No power, but still powerful. The only expensive card in this deck is Tabernacle. This is a vintage deck that you could theoretically play in paper if vintage was a real format and not just a party trick.

Yeah, you do this, and not just because that's actually what happened, right? Marit Lage wins the game, and Wasteland is the way that that fails. I guess the counterpoint is if they have Lightning Bolt. But they may not even have those in the deck at that point, and you know they have Wastelands.

I often see Zuran orb + crucible/excavator in land shells. It can give a bit of room to breathe against agro strats and is infinite life with fastbond. Zuran orb can be a 1 of with saga, and the crucible effects are usually fine on their own for looping powerful things. Was it too slow for this build? Also, all three are sub $20 cards, so no weird reserve list shenanigans here.

Yeah those decks are cool too. I think this one is leaning hard into the 8 mulch cheese scam thing rather than the clever engines of a typical lands/depths deck

I think some of that is also a mtgo vs paper thing. Demonstrating the trillion life loop in paper letd you ignore aggro loss conditions. But mtgo you have clock pressure so it at best trades clock for tutns alive.

Man I love lands decks, everytime a pleasure seeing those played on the channel. Also my head still isnt completely done with your round 4 opponent. After most likely topdecking a Karakas into trying to "teach you a lesson old man" into complaining that they didnt hit with bazaars (kinda unlikely but whatever) instead of acknowledging 25% of their comeback options are already exiled leaves me a bit baffled and is one of the reasons I leave chat off for my games. It does not happen often, but maybe I am just not very open to answer banter with banter or have the mindset of "when they talk shit they eat their words" and moving on.

I feel like there's a knockout punch that this deck needs and doesn't have. Crop Rotation seems like it should be a bomb when you draw it but it isn't a lot of the time, some infinite combos might be better with Crucibles and Zuran. Loam just seems a little on the slower / fairer end when it's the only land recycler.

How crazy would it be to put Oath of Druids in a deck like this? It could find something like a Cultivator Collosus. You can just side it out against unfair decks that don't play creatures. I don't play vintage, so this is just genuine curiosity :)

I wonder if it makes any flavor of sense to put a bounceland in at least the sideboard with the amount of graveyard stuff you see, for the sake of replaying Bojuka Bog at some point. Endurance puts the stuff back into the opponent's deck, which may not always be ideal, and you'll usually have Fastbond or Manabond up to get it back into play quickly. Worst case, if you were relying on Manabond, you could just use the bounceland to bounce itself I think, so there really wouldn't be a downside? It's searchable with crop-rot, even if you haven't yet found your loam (or the loam has been removed from the game somehow).

As others have pointed out, this isnt 8 mulch anymore, but you could keep the 8 by calling it 8-bond

8-Bond does not show up on any search results for people looking for 8-mulch decks. A person who wants that style of deck would be perfectly happy finding this deck despite only playing 7 mulches.

Yeah, I was mostly making a joke as the archetype is mulch, but I found it funny for manabond and fastbond both having bond in the name. If the list went to 8 mulches and 7 bond effects you could be even funnier with the 007 8-mulch list. With 7 bonds

1:10:38 could maybe have copied your own boseiju with stage there, legend rule away the real boseiju to then dredge and pick it up with loam on the following turn to take out the patchwork and i think buy one more turn? as well as now having loam+boseiju going to hopefully keep you alive long enough to get field online

As you mentionned the Manabond kind of forces you out of reactive mode and I'm thinking about other colors for Thoughtseize or Deafening Silence with the marginal upside of having already respectively Bojuka Bog and Karakas as on-color utility land. You didn't bring the Red Blast against the fair blue deck so have you thought about the possibility of switching the color ? Also I think the White Initiative matchup would be pretty difficult and that's an unpowerizable deck to expect in the Eternal Weekend
