I play a Magic the Gathering Online Legacy league with Dimir Lutri Tainted Pact, a singleton combo-control deck from Patreon subscriber Kronya. This deck does its best cEDH impression by having a creature in the command zone, only playing 1 of each card, and winning primarily with Thassa's Oracle combos. Dimir is full of cool spells that work together to create a coherent strategy, even if you're not drawing specifically the same cards every game. Thoracle lines? Scam? Reanimator? Jace control? Let's do it all. There can only be one! MTG

I'm glad we've finally decided that playing the best otter is more worth in psychological edge than just a second Tainted Pact. Been maybe two years since that video and that offense STILL burns in my mind.

Hey, round 5 opponent here. In game 1, I was playing to "not lose" & the list doesn't run Lattice atm. I'll have Lattice in for 30 matches & never use it; but then as soon as I cut it, I want it. I also felt dumb with the CC, twice lol. In games 2 & 3, my inexperience vs Tainted Pact combo showed on several occasions. That Sheoldred was unexpected & back breaking. The fetch for mortuary felt like the right decision at the time. I'm glad CotSS got to show up at least a little. Infernal tutor with extra steps & a body on the way through feels strong in a black combo deck. The land shuffle with Portent was brutal. I added a land to the deck after this match, lol. GGs dude.

Before i start, i could also see a second tainted pact being useful. Having 2 still wont stop a tainted pact, as if youve cast 1, there is only one left in the deck. Basically run 2 demonic tutors with drawbacks.

You can’t Lutri with 2 Pacts. That is the correct way to build a non lutri version though

The Battle of Wits Version is extra spicy but is a very tough deck to pilot. It has a lot more combos and wishboard.

a cool edit to the deack would be to approach the deck like a Cedh deck. play mox dimond and chrome mox, maybe mess around with nausea and dark ritual. idk if the legacy pool supports it but it would be a really interesting way to approach building the cek.

R1G1 I wonder if it was an option to cast the muddle to counter crop rotation instead of pitching it to force. Costs the petal, but the force could have been thrown at the second rotation instead. (Obviously that's just how it panned out in practice; I'm...not really good enough evaluation-wise to know if it was good in general)

You've got commenters saying you can run a second Pact because they don't understand Lutri, or about running dupe lands because they don't understand Pact, but consider: You can maindeck a Lutri without disrupting either Pact OR Companion Lutri.

Since the deck is trying to win with thoracle, why not run doomsday. And then if youre running doomsday, youll want 4x to make it more consistence, so you should get rid of the pact and lutri. Since you no longer have either of those, you dont need to run all the one ofs, so you can cut a bunch of those and run a bunch of cards like dark ritual and personal tutor to make doomsday more consistent. Feel like this would be a huge improvement to the deck

Turbo Depths is built to make and protect Marit Lage on turn 2-4 and doesn’t have much else. Lands is a slow control deck with a bunch of ways to lock you out or win, one of which happens to be Marit Lage.

In Legacy, Reanimate can show up any time to flip a game so it's reasonable to play answers that get things out of the graveyard later. In Modern, you can never answer a Not Dead effect because the scam always happens at once.

You can play more Tainted Pacts. If you play two, you know there's only one left in the deck when you cast one. And if you play three, the worst case scenario is you hit another Tainted Pact and have to spend two more mana to finish.
