🎸► BOSS Katana 50 Vs 100 Mk2 - Which One Is Right For You?
Welcome to this Boss Katana 50 vs 100 Mk2 Guitar Amp comparison!
In this video I'll be running though all the differences between the two amps and why you might want to consider the 100 model over the 50 model. On the surface there might not seem to be much of a difference, but there are some features on the Katana 100 model that are essential for more experienced players looking for an amp.

Even as a bedroom player, I think the Katana 100 is absolutely worth the extra investment. Don't think having double the wattage means it's an amp just for gigging. The other extra features are the real selling point.

You might regret that at some stage. The versatility that the GA-FC unlocks should be reason enough to go for the 100W model, especially if you want to gig with the amp.

When that video came out I had my 50 for about 6 months. First of all, it is a great amp, no doubt. Meanwhile I know that the little extras on the 100 are more than worth the 100 Euro in addition which the 100 would've clocked in. Maybe I'll get one in the future anyway. Thank you for breaking down those 2 excellent amps and pointing out the differences. I've already built up a small recording studio (DAW, Audio Interface, Midi Commander/Controller, Monitor Speakers, Bias FX II/Neural DSP modelling software, etc.) so there is not really a need for the 100 anymore but you know how it feels when you think that was the wrong one you've bought. One of the best channels on KZfaq. Keep up the excellent work \o/

I had the Boss Katana Air for about a month it was awesome but lacked "balls" in the distortion department. I watched this video and decided to give the Boss Katana MKII 100W a try. So far it's the perfect amp. The distortion will go from death metal to pop punk. The clean tone is the real gem, no one so far has been able to tell the difference between tubed clean and Boss clean. Well done Boss.

I ordered the 100 and I'm still a beginner/semi intermediate player. The looper is what convinced me toward the 100, that plus the foot switch. I was looking for something a step up from my Fender Mustang 3. It's a cool amp and is reliable, however the Katana offers more plus I dig the tones you can get. This video helped and I'm glad I found your channel. I'm definitely subbing and thanks again for an awesome review/rundown :)

Great explanation, Dave. Thank you. I believe if your just using the MK50ii for practicing at home you can plug the looper into the REC OUT/Phones jack in the back and the output of the looper to an audio interface. The sound would then be coming out of the speakers you have connected to your AI (computer). Not ideal but at least you could change the tones between layers of the loops when practicing. Would be useful for determining what presets you want load for a gig. Maybe even pre-recording, assuming you would prefer the amp tones vs the software you use.

Incredibly helpful orientation - thank you! :-) Your delivery is calm, concise, pedagogically excellent, lively and well paced. Also it‘s obvious that your knowledge as a playing musician is huge, and I love your tastefully created sounds. A lot of reviewers use crappy sounds; yours sound like you gave them some love. As mostly acoustic guitarist, I‘m not sure if I‘d buy either of these amps, but I love the concept. But if I got one, I‘d want the one that doesn‘t (yet?) exist: The 50 but WITH the footswitch, and with the ability to loop with one effect and layer/solo with another. Could go with the 100, but for me that would be overkill both in terms of power and size. Maybe Boss is listening...

Hi, I would just like to add that the effects loop is useful for inserting other pedal effects, and is not just for using a loop pedal. The whole idea is to insert fx between "pre amp" and "amp" in the signal chain, like we normally do in a modern tube amp. It's quite useful when we use delay and reverb pedals too.

Great comparison thank you. My comment is really with modeling amps like these the effects loop(s) are not needed. I say that because with so many built in effects these amps offer if you need external effects then its time to upgrade to a pedal board and tube amp. These modeling amps are really nice for home use, recording, modeling or a couple guys getting together but for anything serious, as you indicated go get the big boy amps. Pedal board with effects and prepare to spend some money but worth it. Don't get me wrong I love these amps for just myself at home they work awesome. Thanks for the video!

Thank you for this great video... I have casually noodles with guitar off and on for a handful of years now....started with a tiny Orange Crush 12 , and soon after got the Marshall MG30CFX and it's PEDL footswitch. The Marshall has been a decent amp so far. Recently my son was given a guitar for his birthday, and that has reignited my desire to play again. I have had my eye on a few amps to get so that we could jam together or with friends. One being the Crush 35RT, as it has the effects loop. I have also had my eye on the Katana amps. Eventually we'd like to jam with friends, as one neighbor has a nice Bass setup, and another plays drums. I HAD originally thought of the 30-35W 10" amps as JUST being enough to jam with them if they don't crank the 4x10 bass cabs or pound the drums too hard... but had also looked into other amps with 12" speakers. Can't afford something like a DSL40 right now....lol We would like to eventually begin experimenting with various tones, amd get some pedals or a multi-fx like a Headrush, or maybe both, definitely a looper soon..... and we want to he able to approximate a wide variety of rock, classic rock, blues, and more modern tones...neither of us are really into hard rock or metal... Thos video has me thinking I need to get something with the effects loop for sure. Your demonstration of the footswitch capabilities on the 100MkII makes me thinnest we either need to go with that, OR pony up for a different amp with a loop as well as some pedals or an MX5 Headrush... Going to buy a looper to start with, while I work on deciding which amp to get or which way to go from here...I live in a very rural area, so seeing these things in person is nearly impossible. Thanks so much for the video! Any additional input would be most appreciated...

Way to go Dave. Nicely detailed. Thanks for sharing. I will have to get the 100 model because it has a line out. :)

Thank you for a very useful video. My next guitar amp is almost certainly a Katana and I believe I will go for the hundred watt primarily because it has the effects loop. Keep up the excellent work!😀👍🏻

update: Not only does the Moog EP-3 expression pedal work with the Katana mkii artist, it works really well. Really opens up tons of options. Boss' expression pedal is 3 times the cost of the Moog. Very affordable for how well it works. Its competitors don't have all the options the Moog pedal does and the Moog is still half the price. If you want one, do the moog ep-3. You won't be sorry.

Thank you so much, this was exactly what I needed to see. I'm going to order a 100W now. I can't see the point of having all those options and not using the GA-FC foot switch, it's exactly what I need. Nothing else I have seen has made it so clear.

Another big difference for me is the LineOut. So you can record with the 100 through the LineOut while monitoring with the amp speakers itseæf. It will not automatically mute like in the Phones/RecOut.
