These guys "sold" me on the Fender Mustang Micro awhile back . As a current apartment dweller , these headphone amps are waay cool, as they prevent the neighbors from acting crazy ... As a Katana owner, I guess these little guys (like the biggie Katanas ,) do waay more stuff than I know how to use . Although I am happy with the Fender product, I will probably score one of these Boss guys later this year ...

Great playing! This is a strong offering from Boss. I have the NUX might plug pro and I have to say it's a great practicing to small gigs tool (output to a "boombox" for basking anyone?). Main differences are: nux 7 presets vs katana 30. Nux Pros: * Nux has a much more flexible effect chain, more amps/fx/IRs. * Nux has 19 or so slots for your own IRs. * It has similar Session functionality (automatic preset switching, only local mp3 files, no youtube), it's a bit expanded because you can have multiple setlist on the NUX. So you can have a setlists of 10+ songs, all queued with automatic switching. * Nux many usb settings, to reamp, record dry out, live stream :-0 ???? Nux cons: * I had to use a 3rd party app to take advantage of all the NUX features, * clean sounding amps need some work. * exchanging tones is a bit clunky Katana Pros: * The katana clean sound sounds really good off the bat (in the youtube demos) * stage feel sounds really cool as well (in the youtube demos) * Boss approved footswitch that connects directly to the plug. With the Nux the footswitch connects to the phone, not the plug, so you need to keep the phone open with the app in the foreground for the footswitch to work. * tone exchange (Coming soon June 2024) Katana Cons: * In order to load a youtube video in the session list you need to copy and paste the url from the browser to the app. No biggie I don't have one so I can't speak about what parts of it don't work as advertised. I think with slightly less features it's going to be more likely to have less opportunity for things to not work as you'd think. They both are banging products for as long as the phone apps work. I don't think you can go wrong with either one

Ordered one. The ability to practice in silence with the minimum fuss and play along with music is exactly what i want to be able to do. Bought one after watching this and other videos...then bought two more as gifts...then a backup for myself when Boss announced they were ceasing production on this version of the unit! My guess is they sold even more of these than they had anticipated, realized they should have made it more cheaply, priced it higher, or both, then decided to retool into whatever next iteration awaits. All I can say is, glad I have this one, it's crazy cool!

I've never owned a boss pedal that didn't need resoldered, or one that I actually used regularly which makes it even more pathetic. The rest of my pedals are made by joyo, tc electronics , or Donner, all of which I prefer and have never had to open for any reason. I just had my ds1 out comparing it to models of it in amp sims and the sims all sound much better than the real thing.
@beaumas
@beaumas 5 ай бұрын
@@trevorD1156 definitely haven't had that experience. With your amp sim situation though running a produced amp sim through a set of speakers will never ever sound the same as running the same real life rig. It's the same argument people make about Marshall amps sounding thin because they're so use to running software that has a produced quality and sounds huge which just isn't the case in real life.

Got mine yesterday. This is one of those products where somebody finally got everything right. Including the price. There is nothing I wish it would do that it doesn’t. Pair it with your phone, and you not only control it with the app, it will play back audio to the device over Bluetooth for playing along with tracks. It has Bluetooth audio and MIDI. It functions as an audio interface to record the output with your DAW. This is the perfect modern practice amp. The only thing I can say negative about it is that unless there’s something I haven’t figured out, “stage feel” is underwhelming. The available reverbs are much better. The presets are also slightly mediocre, and if you edit your own preset, it can sound much better. But the quality of the modeling is as good as any, and the tiny size is right. The minimum you need is the device and headphones, and you are practicing anywhere, walking around freely. Add the phone, and you get editing and backing tracks. Plug into your computer, and you’re recording. I’m not someone who’s willing to trade a tube amp for modeling, and I have a M/B MarkVII for when I want to get serious. But this is the convenience factor and price I needed as a compliment. Cannot complain. I think this thing is going to sell huge. This is the ideal thing for a beginner who’s learning, or a pro who wants to practice conveniently.

As much as people sometimes hate using apps, I think Fender really significantly limited the mustang micro by not having one for a headphone amp specifically to me. Not only is it nice to have an optional way to do a LOT more with your tone and FX. On top of that with how MASSIVELY variable the sound signature is of different sets of headphones or speakers you might plug this into, you really need to be able to have more fine control of even just your EQ than Fender gives you with just a few EQ presets. I've used the Nux headphone amp, and you can set up a sound that is great on one set of headphones, but when you then use that same sound on different headphones or speakers can sound absolutely terrible and you need to adjust it to be usable. With the Fender, you're stuck with what they give you so your option would be just to either play a bad sound, buy new headphones and hope your options sound good through those, or buy an EQ pedal to plug it into and bring that with you everywhere haha.

The best one I've found for literally a standalone headphone amp experince is the Flamma FX10. Great sounds and effects, plus some pretty decent drum loops. They've come out with an upgraded version with more of everything, but it requires a companion app to access a little less than half of them. No thanks, but if youre into that sort of thing, give it a whirl.

I specifically told myself that if this is under 200 bucks I’ll get it. Guess I have to get it. 😂 but I’ve been looking for something like this but other ones haven’t appealed to me that much. This one looks dope!

Fender needs to release a ToneMaster Micro that has an app, and goes into a guitar better without risk of breakage. The Fender Mustang Micro sounds fantastic. It just needed an app.

This seems really cool. Headphone playing is most of what I do though an AmPlug Clean. Trick is once you add in the foot pedal you're now up in amongst the Valeton range. Given that wires are involved in both, I am wondering which would suit me better. It would almost be easier if the pedal wasn't an option!

So - to clarify - to play like Pete, all I need to do is part with just £100 and I'm sorted? Great - just wanted to clarify :))) Great playing, as always, and once again entertaining just listening into you 2 as you demo gear.

I hate how everything has to have a companion app now, in order to reach it's full features and potential. It just doesn't seem travel friendly. I went with the Vox Brian May headphone amp and loving it. It's cheap but does everything I want

The features, and name, are similar to the Positive Grid GO. The price is also about the same. I do have a Katana 50 that I like very much but I would buy the Positive Grid over this. I know me, I would have the 1/4" guitar jack snapped off of the Katana GO within a week. 😁

Anderton's charged £10 delivery to my part of the UK so sadly I ordered elsewhere as it was only 1.50 delivery from another company, hopefully in future they can get more realistic delivery costs!

Theres another bluetooth latecny issue with looping... the split second delay from hitting a bluetooth footswitch to start/stop the looper just wouldn't work

You can probably use a separate looper. Guitar > looper > boss > heaphones. Of course build in would be even easier, but this is still pretty simple.

@@RobertMcSherry in theory it will go into anything if you have the right cable. Get hold of a 3.5mm to quarter inch audio cable and it will go into any powered speaker.

It is impossible to play guitar and use bluetooth headphones to hear it without lag. When you use bluetooth headphones with you cellphone, it calculates how much delay there is in the connection, and then DELAYS the video so that the delayed audio will sync up with it. If you ever try plugging a bluetooth transmitter into the Headphone jack on your amp, you will see this - there is like a 1-second delay every time you play a note.

If Anderton's wants to make an incredibly useful KZfaq short, spend a few minutes plugging the Katana Go into non-standard jacks for guitars like the Ibanez S series and other guitars that use more modern jack openings. Also, plug it into strat guitars with trem arms attached to see how flat the unit can lay so as not to impede whammy arm use. :D

Mine arrived today , all good ! The Stage effect isn’t that amazing to be honest , but adds a nice ambience to the sound . Only fx which is stereo is the stereo delay , and only works in stereo when the Stage setting is off , so , sadly no lush head swirling chorus’s or Flangers but the delay / s is are great , simple to use and very nice sounds , especially the overdrives . Great to play along to music / backing tracks etc . Well done Boss !
