I had a Katana 100w mk2 about 3 years ago. I got rid of it as it was horrific for squealing on the lead channel even with lowering the master volume and gain. When I took it to the studio for band rehearsal it would pick up interference and act crazy. I ended up getting rid of it and getting a blackstar silverline. I went to a pals house for a jam and he had a Katana and had it sounding amazing at high volumes on the lead channel. He pointed out that he adjusted the noise get on the tone studio. Boss should have an extra nob for the noise gate on the control pannel so you can adjust it without having to plug into a computer, especially for us peeps who are not very good with computers. The noise gate makes a hell of a difference to this amp. If I knew about it I wouldn't have sold my Katana. However the Silverline sounds better when driven. The super crunch channel is epic.

Great video as usual Juca! Another tip I hear d a while back when initially dialing in a tone, whether it be clean or dirty, is start with knobs at ZERO and adjust mids first. Then brighten it up with some high end and lastly "fill" with some low end. And always balance the preamp section gain & volume. Dont just dime the volume because it will "present a much richer sound". That will more often than not completely destroy an otherwise nice balanced tone. This amp is AMAZING and Im still rocking MK1 50W and 2 x 12. Cheers everyone

I must say I've learned more about working out the basic sound I want in the last half hour than the last 2 days working around Katana. I was an electronics technician and I know all about bass, mids and treble and the like. Using that knowledge was something else. Thanks so much for that no nonsense approach to the subject Juca. Back when I was still doing the “band thing” I had some great amps fenders, Marshall’s, Vox. When my playing became my hobby I downsized my rig only keeping a tube combo and a select board of pedals. I picked up a katana artist a bit ago because I wanted a more portable rig and for recording options. Not disappointed in it at all, this could have easily been my stage amp. Right out of the box the panel provides a good variety of tones that can be seasoned to almost any taste. The tone studio is fantastic but even without using it there are great tones to be found. The one thing that bugs me is the compressor can’t be placed before the boost traditionally it was common use compressors as the first pedal in the chain or at least before drive pedals. I have a dynacomp I place on my line in to make it more families to me but it would be nice to have the option in the chain settings on the amp or in tone studio, since when I grab gear to go to jams I would like to just grab the amp and guitar instead of having to take my comp and the power supply and another patch cable. I am however a huge fan of the amp and when I think about how much I spent on my “pro” amps and how much this cost i place it the best I have had in overall value. Yes some other amps did somethings better but none could do all the things just as well.

Great video and explanation of how to find sounds. If you haven't yet , I would love a section showing examples of dialing in sounds like this with the BTS or amp for specific bands instead of just patches . Your sounds are incredible and patches are awesome. Dive into how you approach a very famous guitarist sound and dial it from scratch. Would be a very informative series for katana 50 and instructing in the process of duplicating a sound even with layers and break those layers down.. just a idea Thanks for your dedication to sharing knowledge.

Very good video I subscribed right after watching it....I use my laptop to prepare the 4 patches the katana 50 mk ll ...after watching your video I’m going back to redo my clean tone on my patches ...I use a Marshall 2 button foot pedal to change between the 4 patches .by the way you didn’t mentioned the acoustic channel ...it works great at emulating an acoustic guitar ...believe it or not it makes my Gibson les Paul sound like a very convincing acoustic guitar.

You should have eight presets on that katana 50 or do the 50s only have four I know the 100 watt models have eight presets On the 100 W models if you hold the preset button down for a couple seconds it will start to blink and you’re in the second bank Four more presets ! Hi Juca, great video. Can I ask, when using just the panel how do you access the effects on 'Bank B'? Cheers!

It should be the same as the bank A turn the effects knob to the right until you see the colored light come on above it then you can push the colored light to switch it from red green and yellow which are different effects depending on what effect you have assigned to each color the knob controls how much of the effect you’re applying or the speed in the case of tremolo .
