The first Boss overdrives pedals were released over 35 years ago, and they’ve been helping to shape the tone of rock and blues music ever since. The current standard Boss overdrive is the OD-3, a great sounding analog pedal and one of our best sellers. Whilst it may look very similar, the OD-1X is a completely different beast though…
Cosmetically, these new X range of pedals are virtually identical to every other Boss pedal. They’ve got the same apocalypse proof housing, come supplied with a 5 year warranty and they run off a 9v battery or optional power supply…but they do have this cool shiny control plate and chrome knobs.The real big difference is at the heart of the pedal…where as the OD-3 is a classic analog overdrive, the OD-1X is powered by Boss’s state-of-the-art multi-dimension processing, or MDP, digital processor. This powerful, real time processor adapts to the way you play, providing the ideal overdrive tones depending on dynamics and register.Very easy to use, there’s controls for volume, overdrive gain and low and high EQ controls. Bu because it’s digital, the OD-1X has a very low noise floor, even at higher gain levels and the volume and EQ controls have a wider tone shaping range than most conventional analog pedals. Tonally, it offers a high clarity overdrive that’s smooth and refined, it’s extra responsive to volume changes and picking dynamics. This digital processing preserves the unique characteristics of your guitar and pickups, instead of muddying the tone like some analogue pedals do.

I have both and prefer the od-3, due to it's warmer, more organic sound. the od-1X is more crispier and has more gain. But the digital sound doesn't do it for me. For me, the od-3 does the job best. I find it even better than the od-1 or sd-1.

The OD-3 is definitely warmer, but if your amp already has a warm, full sound, with a little bit of breakup (which is how I dial mine in) the OD-1x is great. It doesn’t add a lot of character and the EQ is really flexible. Just adds gain and maintains clarity really well. Into a clean amp it can sound sterile. Definitely not a bedroom pedal. I think it’s an overlooked/underrated pedal. I love it.

I NOW actually have a very good warm AMP which has a slight breakup-option, my OD1x could work with that even with mild settings....,the od1x can sound very non-digi with low settings( I still think its processing the EQ all the time for equalness of.notes played..., which is why I trust it ).....I use my OD3 n Dyna Drive for Jazzy darkish with drive n tone down!! THANKYOU for reminding me of its goodness, and it CAN INDEED sound like a good nondigi od with low settings: so its Vey Versatile! and about underrated pedals the BOSS Dyna Drive: its like a steady foundation for my jazzy tone after the OD-3: brings a bit even eqd strings to the tone! try one with drive and tone down! very nice eq tone!

The 1X doesn’t sound digital.

Both sound great. The EQ range is fuller on the OD-1X, just as he said it would. I think the OD-3 works better as a boost (level dimed, no drive) especially if you are trying to push an amp into OD versus adding color and flavor via the pedal, but I don't think you'd seek either of these for the former purposes.

Have the OD1X, can say I'm happy with it. Set my Blues Jr to get a bit of grit. Roll guitar volume back to clean that up, wing it up for grit, then step on the OD-1X for lead work. Run the OD drive typically around 2 -3:00. Works really good with my Tele's. Now that is going for an early 70's classic rock sound, not metal.

If you have a GT100 or 1000 you already have all of their digital pedals including this. These are great for a solid state or digital amp.

Always been particular about analog distortion, even though I don’t mind digital modulation pedals, but I have to say, the x sounds better. At least it has a proper bass control. I gave up on overdrive pedals that shelve off the bass and only have a tone knob on tap.

The real question is: What distortion pedal is better than the OD-1X? Is it better than the Ibanez Tube Screamer? Obviously the TS cannot do the full overdrive distortion, but guitarists love the medium distortion tube-like sound it has. Can the OD-1X match that?

I love this pedal. It has a true powerful distortion. It gives real power to the sound of the guitar I think. Like a raw power.

If you can afford it the OD-1X is WAY more versatile in every way not to mention clear and better.

I used many years the SD-1 as a gain pedal after the DS-1 and the feedback was great, but if you want a booster and some extra drive the OD-3 does the job. If i try that wit the OD1x I still have some doubts.

one can match the OD1X with other pedals with its wide range of eq and gain, whileas the od3s fizziness or darkness helps none of my pedals, my first in line is the Mad Prof Simble, then the Fender Engager Boost ( for fine sculpting), then come others..., some are afraid of Transisters, some of Tubes, some of analog, some of digi...., I think theres trans amps that sound very warm like valves, and furthermore many pedals that do quite a bit into that direction, and the COMBINATION of some pedals do wonders to a great solid state amp...! (OK: when Tomsline Bluesy by itself is not too likeMarshall bluesbreaker, with Nobels ODR1 its quite! and two different jazzy tones with strat: Simble to Nobels/Simble to NUX Amp sim! different companies differnt tones differnet prices but combined marvellous tones appear in our ears..., Ugh ( I have Spoken), K

I liked 1X by far, but it is digital!!! I mean, I have a gt10 but if you buy a pedal to use with your amp, it is usually because you want analog sound. Just saying it is digital that means that I probably have that same sound in one of the OD in the gt10, just that I haven't realised yet..

@@scudelicious amigo, una gt10 vale la pena tener, es un juguete, no la pienses como una pedalera profesional. Vas a poder hacer muchas cosas, y otras no vas a poder hacer, el sonido tiene sus limitaciones. pasate por mi canal tengo como 3 videos con la gt10 y ahi puedes ver lo que se puede hacer, y mucho mas, piensa que tienes un abanico de efectos muy amplio y cosas para hacer sonidos como transformadores de pickups de doble a simple, simple a doble, a media caja, etc. tienes delays de todo tipo.. Pero la calidad no es la mejor, sirve para muchas cosas, pero mas que nada, sirve para que te adentres en el mundo de las pedaleras de forma económica, porque es lo mas barato que hay, con la me80 tambien. Sirve para que veas como funcionan las cadenas, como funciona un phaser, como funciona un vibrato, flanger, tremolo, auto wah, etc. y para ver como funciona todo junto. tambien tiene simulador de sintetizador saw, y tiene looper, o sea te da una probada de todo. si tienes un poco mas de plata ve por la gt100, tiene mas calidad y tiene casi todo lo mismo (aunque tiene menos maniobravilidad). con la gt10 tienes gama media, con la gt100 ya estarías en gama media-alta. Luego si quieres te hablo de la gama alta y cuales son las que deberia comprar. chequea mis videos para darte una idea, pero hay muchos muchos sonidos mas, voy a subir mas videos hasta cubrir todos los presets que tengo..

@@scudelicious The thing is, in some countries those Boss pedals are really expensive and people have to seek comfort in modellers and Behringer pedals, or chinese

This came across as a cut-price ad for the Boss-Od 1X, rather than a reasonable comparison between the two pedals. I take it the OD 3 isn't the one in stock.
