this is by far the most useful video for how this pedal actually works, thank you so much

I own this pedal now for a while and I couldn't figure out the S-Bend mode. You show all of the in such a very clear and detailed manner. Thanks a lot!

Excellent review/demo. A whole lot better than all the guitar ones. This is coming from a guitarist. Great job.

I have to ask: is there a violin with guitar type of tuners rather than pegs? I dearly hate pegs. I have a cheap violin I bought off amazon that I moded with guitar tuners and , while it is good for me to practice , I would like to buy a violin that has this from the factory . It is a simple mod but IMHO it is crude. ( though it is a cheap chinese violin and I paid very little for it)

What are some top three most interesting pedals out there by BOSS for experimenting with the violin aside from the harmonist?
@ElectricViolinShop2 жыл бұрын
Boss pedals? They have fantastic reverb and delay pedals. And they have great distortion pedals, too.

So listen, Matt, I play one particular song with my band that the singer songwriter insists has to be in Fm. String players know that's one of the keys you almost never run into, no open strings which for a cello can be pretty hard. All the singer does is put his capo at 1 and proceed to play in Em. Will the Harmonizer let me go up a half step, so I too can just play in Em but it'll sound like Fm?
@ElectricViolinShop7 жыл бұрын
No. There are only a few choices. You can go +3, 5, or 7 semitones or -5 or 7. There is a pedal called the Drop pedal that is the opposite of a capo. You could play in Gm and it could drop you to Fm.

Quick question: Will it work with my barcus berry pickup?
@ElectricViolinShop4 жыл бұрын
Hi! We replied to your email as well, but just for the record, you play through the pedal using signal from your pickup, however, you (and your audience) will at once be hearing the shifted and/or harmonized tone coming from your amp as well as the played notes coming acoustically from your violin. If you're pitch shifting this could be a problem (imaging shifting up a whole step and hearing yourself play a D and the amp put out an E--this would be quite raucous).

Can it function like the DigiTech Drop?

Hi! i am from Argentina, i would really like to know if you try the Quintessence from Tc Electronic with the violín, i play the viola but is the same. I dont want to buy it without knowing if it work. Thank you for your work! its really helpful!
@ElectricViolinShop6 жыл бұрын
Santiago--We haven't tried the Quintessence (yet) but we do carry the TC Ditto loopers and can vouch for their quality and fidelity. There's really no reason the Quintessence shouldn't work well with violin/viola. The Quintessence appears to have many of the same functions as the BOSS PS-6, with the main differences being that the BOSS PS-6 has the Super Bend (10:04), which the TC pedal does not, while the TC pedal harmonizes in all modes, whereas the BOSS pedal is only Major/Minor. If I were you I'd decide whether I'd rather have a 'Super Bend' or the ability to play modal harmonies and let that help guide my decision. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!

oh great! one last question! All the strings of the instrument has to be on 440 or only the A string? Oh! this has autotune or something like that or it sounds the note that are you playing? thanks a lot ! Electric Violin instagram?
@ElectricViolinShop6 жыл бұрын
No autotune, it tries to harmonize with the pitch you play, which means you must tune the A string to 440 make sure to tune all other strings in reference to A 440Hz. (You also need to play in tune or it will get very confused!) To ensure best performance use a digital tuner. We are at instagram.com/electricviolinshop

:) :) thank you!!!
@jefflarsen46976 жыл бұрын
So if the guitars are tuned 1/2 step below 440, this is where the problems happen? Even if you would set the key on the Harmonist to the appropriate/corresponding key. Another words with the guitar tuned down 1/2 step and playing a song in the key of E,,, would you set the Harmonist to Eb and it would then function properly?

Why were you playing on the right shoulder?
@donaldharris88263 жыл бұрын
@ T.J. Amendariz The man is left handed so the fiddle/violin goes on he right shoulder, and just the opposite for a right handed player. The man has a left or right handed chin rest but his fiddle/violin is strung up and set up to play left handed ! ! ! I am extremely new to all pedals. If you have watched ViolinRa's live performance video, I would like to achieve similar effect on my acoustic violin. Problem is I can only afford the Boss PS-6. Can I achieve similar effects with a Boss PS-6? What settings would you recommend? Thanks @ElectricViolinShop
@ElectricViolinShop6 жыл бұрын
Can you provide a link to the video you are referencing? We sell multi-effects processors that don't cost any more than the PS-6 and contain a plethora of different effects, so that may be another option for you. www.electricviolinshop.com/gear-accessories/effects-pedals/multi-effects.html

Okay, yes, the Boss PS-6 harmonist would do the harmonizing that you hear early in the video. He does shift to some other effects later, which the PS-6 itself will not do. For that you will want to combine a harmonizer effect with other pedals or a multi-effects processor. But if you're just interested in the harmony effect then the PS-6 is amazing for the price!

what's the differences between harmonis & sifter?
@ElectricViolinShop7 жыл бұрын
em mil Harmonizing is the note you play plus one (or two) other pitches based on your setting. Shifting is just moving your original note to a different pitch level. Make sense?
@emilfahrul76327 жыл бұрын
Electric Violin Shop ooh i see.. i asked like that coz i always set balance in the middle.. so i don't know that they're difference..lol
@ElectricViolinShop7 жыл бұрын
em mil Yep, that will make a difference. Try with the dry signal all the way off and you'll get the full pitch shift effect. :)
@emilfahrul76327 жыл бұрын
Electric Violin Shop ok thank you..
@ElectricViolinShop7 жыл бұрын
The other difference is that the Harmonist mode is "intelligent", meaning that it will choose between major and minor thirds (or fourths) based on what key you're in. The pitch shifter just makes a second tone that is the specified number of semitones from your pitch, regardless of key. Example: in the key of D, with a +3 harmony selected, if you play a D, the harmony with be an F#, which is a major third above your note. If you play an F#, the harmony will be an A, which is a minor third above your note. In pitch shifter mode, if you choose +3 semitones, it's going to give you a minor third no matter what key you're in. Does that make sense?

does these pedals work for electric cello too?

Absolutely. They're actually designed for guitar, so cello voicings are closer to the original design.
