I was on her for 4-5 hours non stop and I felt the same way. My very first relief in the game that I felt happy was Maliketh

Ah managed to get around her in about an hour. Had realize I had the one blood katana that staggered the shit out of her so it was just a matter of learning her second phase a little better after sweeping her first phase easily every time.

Took about hr and a half, solo no summons against Malenia. It was definitely the most fun soulsborne boss for me, so yes I didn't feel the same way as you. I was elated when I finished it and definitely gave that rush of dopamine after the fight was over.

@@SlaineReigns took me 3 days for her, was doing solo no summons with a strength double warhammer build and bloodhound step. By far the hardest but greatest boss I’ve ever fought in a souls game IMO. Finally winning was a dopamine rush, def my fave fight in the game

I got stuck on her for 3hrs.. but it was only because i was a bit over leveled when i got to her.. i was just doing unga bunga with bloodhound step. I wanna fight her again while knowing all of her moves without an overleveled character and bloodhound.

Same. I beat her finally recently and I wanna do a rematch and do better. I got pretty good at the first phase and logically I understand the second phase too I'm just not good enough to pull it off so I beat her with online co-op. It still felt really good triumphing over her though! The other fellow I summoned also had an unga-bunga double big sword style so I felt instant camraderie. And it was still hard as balls, we needed to correctly time our attacks together and we both needed to correctly dodge THAT move. I raged, I had fun learning her, and it was a great feeling T posing at her in the end. Really good boss, but still not my favourite because of how frustrating and unpredictable it can be.

Jesus man I feel you so much. Just beat her recently with a self imposed rule, no summons/let me solo her, use guts greatsword, no poke spam, no shield, and no magic just pure melee. I'm not saying this to brag on you or anyone(I'm proud tho), I'm just saying this because you most likely also had some self imposed bs rules on yourself if you had to deal with her for 5 days, you're not alone my man. Needless to say, my rules forced me to memorize all of her move sets and learn when I'm supposed to attack and when not to, fuck colossal weapons, they do satisfy me but at what cost. Man I do hate it when I stagger her then when she comes back up she goes straight in to her dance(water fowl) animation, I'm not far enough to dodge her first barrage, bad rng sucks. I beat her once with my rules, but then I realized my screen wasn't recorded, so I did it again, yes I'm stupid and this is pointless. I beat her again after 10 hours of trying, it was recorded this time, but god that run was dirty because I just woke up and beat her on my first try of the day. Now I'm thinking if I should reload my save file and say goodbye to my progress yet again because for sure I can do better than I did. I'll set my vid public if anyone's interested to see a masochist's victory.

I got pretty good at this fight. I started punishing a lot of shit like her side step and her kick. I loved this fight though. The process of breaking it down and executing it. Felt like I could get to the point of no damaging her. Super sweet battle

If my two summons hadnt managed to deal with her for me, I had no intention of going back in. I took one look at the crazy bullshit she was doing and knew I couldnt handle it, and just hid in the corner.

Her second phase is just terrible to learn if you're playing blind and the fact that she recovers health doesnt help either. A melee focused build is just destined to suffer on this fight.

@@JardsonJean hate to be that guy but if you're implying a melee build by nature takes hits you're wrong lmao of course if you're playing blind the boss is hard. that's not new. orphan of kos exists. all her moves are telegraphed really clearly and the fight is basically a lesson of working out how to dodge her moves and when is safe to attack. just unga-bunga swing colossal greatsword and tank hit with insane poise doesn't work.

@@louwashe yeah. In the attempts I won or almost won I barely got hit with my melee build. The ONLY thing that I didnt learn to avoid is that dance of doom but I just shield tanked that. I'm glad there's one boss in the game that's stupid hard no matter when I fight them.

@Anal Farmer I realized after helping a few others beat her. She's a Bloodborne boss, you gotta get your hits in and get out super fast. Fists and daggers can flinch her and have super fast recovery times so you can react to her attacks. She got me to open my inventory and dig for something that works that wasn't shield and counter and I enjoy being forced to use all the damn things I had been hoarding.

Nah you gotta adapt man. Can't expect the same thing to work on every ennemy.

@Anal Farmer The regen is not even the unfair thing in that fight, she barely heals herself from it. Like, if she gets a big chuck of HP back, that means you took way too many hits, so you are most likely dead or at like 5% HP and will most likely die anyway. The bs thing is her anime jump slash, as there's only 2 ways to evade that sh*t. Either manage to glitch the insane tracking the first attack has by running towards her or get lucky and be far away enough to outrun it.

to hear her also say "I've never known defeat" means she pushed Radahn's poop in too

The super anime attack PERSONALLY doesn't bother me anymore because I can dodge her consistently with normal roles, but it's still dumb, I hope they fix that move a little bit, a raise on the wind up would be perfect. @@Sol217 You've probably found it by now but you need two halves of a secret medallion, one you get from the snowy area at Castle Sol, I forget where the other one is though. Anyways, after you get the two halves, take it to the elevator you used to get to the snowy area and change the interact option until it says "Raise secret medallion" it will take you to a new area where you have to navigate through a snowstorm but after that, you'll find a town where you have to solve a puzzle by lighting four flames, afterwards, there will be a gateway open that will teleport you to the Haligtree and from there, it's just a mostly straightforward path to Malenia.

As it should be, when you toss about an optional boss that's meant to symbolize the game's struggles wholeheartedly

@@OtepRalloma The thing is, Malenia is hard for all the wrong reasons. The whole bossfight is defined by one move (waterfowl dance) that's just broken. I've been playing souls games for years and I like fighting difficult bosses but Malenia is an unbalanced mess.

@@mgk5856 I strongly disagree that the fight is defined by it. Sure, it's a major attack that you need to be aware of, but it's far from her only attack. You need to know how to deal with all of her different moves, as well as dodge waterfowl. Not to mention scarlet aeonia and the valkyrie summon exist. Overall, it's a fight that I've enjoyed each time I've done it, not only because waterfowl is satisfying to dodge, but because everything else feels like its own song and dance too. Ofc not everyone needs to like the fight, but I and many others did. Plus an icon like LMSH wouldn't exist if she was just another pushover

Yeah, her waterfowl dance might be total BS but I still had a lot of fun fighting her.

2/10 boss, a lot of people change their opinion of bosses once they beat it, look at the boss with an objective point of view, and you will see the many flaws, compared to other bosses in the game, and the series.

@@id1550 Most of the time, it’s the most difficult bs bosses that are the most memorable even if the design is bad. King of the Storm, Orphan of Kos, Orstein and Smoug. Every game has a bs boss that makes you beat your face against a wall as you try to perfect the match for hours on end. But then you can’t help but go online and see others take on the struggle and eventually beat it too because the experience sits with you. For me it’s the wfd having such specific tight dodge windows and directions that makes this fight difficult. The lifesteal is irrelevant if you treat her like Nameless King who outright kills you if he hits you 1-2 times. Yet I wouldn’t have her any other way. Same with pre-nerf Radahn who would fart and insta kill me. His stats were beyond too overdone yet I hate that all my playthroughs are against a nerfed version of him now.

@@deletekeys Orphan and O&S are not bullshit tho, not in the slightest. Waterfowl doesn't have "tight" dodge windows, it has NO dodge windows. The first flurry is literally undodgeable. The only way to avoid it to not be in the hurtbox to begin with. THAT is bullshit.

Against the flurry attack, only if she's far enough away, I would keep evading away, them just before she jumps again I would evade towards her, then away twice more after her attack. That could avoid being hit. If I was too close, I would have to block some of it.

Dunkey called this "Dark Souls 4: No End Credits Edition" and I thought that was a really accurate descriptor as I work through NG+ on one file and an entirely fresh 3rd run on another file...

The Square Off weapon art breaks their armor in one stab for some reason

He ended up using Garranqs Boulder. It does blunt damage. Close enough.

all you need to do is hit them enough till they crack

The crystal enemies have a massive damage resistance buff that only goes away after you break their stance. They become more cracked and broken after the stance break and take normal damage from all weapon types. Blunt damage still will do MORE damage than other types, but the main thing stopping damage is the damage resistance that the crystal enemies have before having their stance broken.

@@thelegalsystem Their damage resistance almost doesnt exist versus blunt weapons. And your hits dont bounce off, which is important.

i was running two colossal swords on her, she only gets staggered when she is not doing anything. If she is dashing or attacking she doesnt get staggered even from getting hit by two colossal swords at the same time.

Yep if you take that soreseal thing it's like 50% more damage and near the haligtree the enemies get a super boost of damage.

I thought so too about her weapon art, thinking it was even simply impossible to dodge if you were close to her, but it turns out the timing is just extremely tight, with 2 or 3 perfectly executed dodges you can escape the attack no matter the distance

Probably because it IS impossible. Just have to hope she goes after your summon and not you, or you die.

If you don't panic, all you need to do is roll toward her and she'll completely whiff and zoom past you on each stage of the attack. So just 3 well-timed rolls forward will make her miss it all. After I figured this out, it made the fight soo much easier since everytime she does that, it's just free damage

@TheMetalCosmic Looks like someone's salty... in all honesty, I can see where you're coming from but the only bs thing imo is the dancing blade attack but that's just because it felt inconsistent every time she used it, sometimes it would absolutely destroy me but other times it would barely touch me and I didn't do much different between attempts. Everything else about the fight? I love it, definitely one of the best bosses fromsoft has ever made.

You will do thousands of dmg to her, dodge every move and every time she will spam waterfowl for a free win. Legit a one move Larry. Not fun or engaging to run around the arena for 10 minutes for a one second opening to not get TOD(touch on death). If she is your fav boss please oh please play ds1 and fight artorias. That fight was actually good and challenging.

@TheMetalCosmic I agree Malenia has some massive issues but how does Bloodborne have the best bosses? Outside the DLC, the bosses are just average. Dark Souls 3 still reigns supreme when it comes to bosses, and it's not even close.

@@rotonek2887 I had 60 Vigor and the Erdtree's Favor +2 equipped. Her Grab did 80% of my HP in Phase 1 and one-shot me in Phase 2. Waterfowl Dance always killed me.

This is my 1st. souls game too. This message is for you if you use a shield and you aren't aware of this detail. Apply Barricade Shield ash of war on ANY shield that has 100% guarded damage negation. Apply it before an attack and watch how your endurance is affected. Now try blocking without it and watch your endurance.

Took me less, but I also respected from a STR + INT build into a DEX + INT one... so I could go in dual wielding whips that caused bleed and frost and had bloodhound step as their weapon art then summoned a mimic tear proceeded to stun lock her first phase to death. she would still make short work of the mimic on the second phase tho, so had to go at it alone and with a lot less stunlock, but still got her with repeated bleed and frost procs.

Did you take her as your maiden after killing her 😏🤣😂😅

What I am trying to say here is that I cheesed the shit out of her and that people dont give whips their proper due (seriously, they remain one of the easiest way to break poise/stunlock people) Also that I legit cannot even imagine how a different character build is supposed to do this.
