Boston College basketball player Dennis Clifford and head coach Jim Christian got emotional after their 1st round loss to FSU at the NY Life ACC Men's Basketball Tournament. The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) is a collegiate athletic conference in the United States in which its fifteen member universities compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA's) Division I, with its football teams competing in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), the highest levels for athletic competition in US-based collegiate sports. The ACC sponsors competition in twenty-five sports with many of its member institutions' athletic programs held in high regard nationally. ACC teams and athletes have claimed dozens of national championships in multiple sports throughout the conference's history. Generally, the ACC's top athletes and teams in any particular sport in a given year are considered to be among the top collegiate competitors in the nation. The ACC is considered to be one of the six collegiate power conferences, all of which enjoy extensive media coverage and automatic qualifying for their football champion into the Bowl Championship Series (BCS). With the advent of the College Football Playoff in 2014, the ACC will be one of five conferences with a contractual tie-in to an "access bowl", the successors to the BCS.
Founded in 1953 in Greensboro, North Carolina, by seven universities located in the South Atlantic States, the conference added additional members in late 1953, 1979, 1991, 2004, and 2013. The 2004 and 2013 additions extended the conference's footprint into the Northeast and Midwest. The most recent expansion in 2013 saw the additions of the University of Notre Dame, the University of Pittsburgh, and Syracuse University. In 2012, the University of Maryland's Board of Regents voted to withdraw from the ACC to join the Big Ten Conference. On November 28, 2012, the ACC's Council of Presidents voted unanimously to invite the University of Louisville as a full member, replacing Maryland.

+Chris Giovine he was joking, he's not missing going out to eat.. He was referring to the time earlier this year when the whole team got wicked bad food poisoning after eating at a chipotle. Cuz that Chipotle ended up having a horrible E.coli outbreak when they ate there. So the whole team was so sick they couldn't practice for almost 2 weeks, and some even ended up in the hospital because of it... That's what he was talking about. So good on him for trying to laugh and have a little fun even while being really sad that they're run is over in college sports

Anyone who doesn't understand what he meant has never played basketball on a team before. Some of the best memories I ever had came from the times we hung out as a team nowhere near a basketball, just enjoying life with the teammates you work hard and struggle with day in and day out.

I hate that the "going out to eat thing" turned into a huge joke. I went to a couple BC games throughout Cliff's career and I can honestly say I have never seen a kid improve more as a player. As a freshman he looked so out of place on the floor, but he worked his tail off to get better and help his team. This is a class act guy who clearly cared about his teammates, which showed here as he got choked up talking about his time with them. Stoked to see that he's making some noise in the D league now

kd47730 Because yes hes sad that they lost and got bounced from the tourney. But in his own words the following day on a local sports station here in Boston he even said so when asked what he meant and why he said "going out to eat." He said "O I was trying to make a little joke since our season was so awful I figured I could lighten the mood by bringing up how honestly the biggest thing we did all year was get wicked sick." "at least we did it as a team though lol."

+Spencer G it was a joke.. earlier this year every player on the team got wicked sick when they all went out to Chipotle after a game or practice one day.. An they got so sick that some even ended up in the hospital, and no one could practice for almost 2 weeks.. It was bad enough that the Chipotle store was shut down for awhile to clean up and get rid of whatever it was that got all the players and a bunch of other people sick. Like E.coli or something bad like that... So it was an inside joke for people who live around here and know the hell those guys went through a while back... It was actually an awesome response lol..

punkrokr283 they weren't that bad his freshman year.. Almost all underclassmen and had the freshman of the year for the ACC. And beat GT in the opening round and then lost, but at least they lost to the conference champs that year, Miami.. Can't really say much about the years after though lol. It was definitely awful. But I'm telling you man, he was trying to crack a joke to get off having to talk anymore about losing every single conference game.. Like I already said. I didn't believe him or know what the hell he really meant by it either until I heard him get more in depth on the comment on a radio station sports program like the very next day... And he even said "you know we had a horrible year when I'm trying to switch subjects by talking about all of us getting E.coli food poisoning." Trust me I was thinking the same thing as everyone else til I heard him talking the next day on the radio... I mean unless he only said it was a joke to cover up that he totally forgot about everyone getting sick when using "going out to eat" as his favorite, and most missed thing.. But IDK... I'm literally just repeating what the kid himself said

OKAY, just so everyone is aware.. He said "going out to eat" as a joke. Because a few month back, the whole team went out to eat to Chipotle and everyone ended up wicked sick from food poisoning. Like E.coli or something like that.. But it was bad enough that they had to shut down the chipotle store for awhile to clean out the entire place, top to bottom. And the players got so sick that some ended up in the hospital for a few days, and the whole team couldn't even practice for almost 2 weeks because of how sick they all got... So it was an inside joke for people who knew the story... It's actually a wicked funny response considering the horrible season they had.. THAT WAS FUNNY AS HELL, good on him for being able to laugh about it now..

shane o no he's obviously sad about losing and getting bounced from the tourney. But they lost every single game in their conference this year.. So instead of having to talk about that, he tried crackin a joke to lighten the mood. He was trying to make himself not cry by joking about the getting ill thing... He even said so the next day on one of our local sports stations, cuz even they asked if he was joking and what he meant by it. And that's when he said straight up "No I was just trying to get a laugh to help me feel better instead of having to continue talking about such a bad senior season."" And those were his words, not mine..

football and basketball winless in their division.....i feel bad for the fans and especially the players being a former college athlete myself I completely understand the way he feels, to be a senior and to not have winning season is extremely tough, he has to live with that for the rest of his life, and he probably regrets even going to BC in the first place.
