agreed! i wonder if it's at all a function of shows starting later this year? to my knowledge spring training(s) started at the same time as usual for groups, but it's like everyone's had an extra week in the oven? i dunno. but it's dope.

Cavies has crazy uncomfortable space in there book. Also with what i could hear in san antonio the Cavs snares had a crazy run

@@mrpiklez3703 i was also in san antonio and just didn’t hear it. bloo had the best drumline at san antonio, but i think boston will win that title. however, bloos pit is insane, i think that award is going to them two years in a row.

They were piss clean on the field too, those pearl snares sounded so much better compared to all the others that night, in my opinion you could hear them through the horns a lot better than the other corps I heard at SA.

She is so deserving to be the leader of the Boston crusaders drumlines and she has worked hard and we are very proud of her and the other girls in the drumlines. She has one of the best pair of hands I have ever seen in any drummers in the history of this legendary drumlines thanks for the work you have done for our drumlines and drum corps known as the bac of 2023

General consensus on cavs is their book is piss easy barring their features, but they play it so damn well it almost doesn’t matter. Doesn’t really explain how they got highest content score, but at this point I have NO idea what’s goin on in judges minds right now.

​@@gronchosko7741it's bullshit. I understand not having crazy battery stuff ALL the time, but I'm pretty sure any top indoor scholastic group could learn their book in probably 2 weeks time, MAX. Their "easy" stuff is inexcusably easy and it's not like it just fits perfectly with the show music either.

@@DeeboComing some people have said they’re playing it safe, but in my opinion it’s to a ridiculous degree, to the point where it’s straight up boring to watch the majority of the time. People make excuses that their pit is absolutely insane and that’s a big part of percussion score, but that doesn’t mean I have to be happy about the idea of them winning Sanford.

Yea I’d say the batteries are only truly sample for 15% or less of the show. Which is sadly ironic, given the trophy is the shape of a snare drum and named after a guy who revolutionized marching drumline. -Evan

Evan marched Crown in 2009 and 2010 and I (Mike) marched Blue Stars in 2010 and Bluecoats in 2012. We’re both snare drummers. We both were also in Rhythm X for a few years.

I don’t know if I would say “hands down”, at least not on the move. I do agree that their ceiling is one of the higher of all the groups. If they can achieve it more consistently, they’ll be right up there at the end.

Touché. Hands down in a game of centimeters separating the top lines. Def wish there was a field judge so we could hear their tapes on the move but since all we have is lot stuff…when I watch coats: I keep waiting for the minor inconsistencies (bad attacks, the first diddle on rolls/the first after the tap, the shots, blend issues, timing, etc) and they just don’t show up. I don’t mean to sound like a homer. Def not sleeping on BD either…I just need to come on the podcast at this point lol 😂

I see different groups have different types of difficulty going for them. In my opinion, BAC has the most difficult book in terms of pure chops from all sections, Bluecoats have the most difficult book from a rhythmic vocabulary with a book that explores more difficult dynamics, and BD has the most difficult book from sort of a blend of chops and rhythmic vocabulary point of view but with more environmental and listening risks. This is just for the battery though, and I can't comment on how the front ensemble of overall percussion packages appear to me. BAC seems to have the best tenor line I've heard in years though, maybe even on par or surpassing BD '11, SCV '16, and the writing seems to allow them to showcase that talent. I also think BD has the best tenor line they've had since the 09-12 era too and they also showcase them a lot. I don't see the same coming from Bluecoats this year. Their tenor line is great, but not pushing the limits or being asked to do much compared to the others. Maybe their technique or writing doesn't lend itself to doing crazy sweeps and crossovers. All their bass lines are awesome though, but I give BD the slight edge in that regard. I just hope whoever wins the Sanford actually has the best and cleanest battery to back that up.
