Once humanoid robots hit a certain level of usable functionality I think they will be priced somewhere between the cost of a home appliance and a used car. Ultimately it's just going to be high-end motors combined with battery packs and software. No real reason they need to cost more than 6 or 7k especially once you have a number of companies offering them.
@stefanblack3909

Until the market supply is fully met, the price will be much higher, closer to the cost of a humans yearly income. The price will not reflect the cost of manufacturing, but what the market will bear.

If P ≠ NP, a hypothesis widely suspected by most computer scientists, then creating humanoid robots is considered not just a poor choice but also a waste of time, money, and resources. Robots should be designed with a focus on utility, similar to Japanese cars, rather than aiming for psychological appeal like European ones.

@@ivoryas1696 Value is always relative. The only 'correct' value for anything is whatever the agreed upon value in a transaction is... There does tend to be a direct correlation between using more expensive materials and achieving a higher quality end-product. However, more expensive material cost (or even labor, etc) isn't really a necessary component of a higher value product. General consensus of perceived value is what predicts the end-value. But the actual transaction agreement (sale price) is the 'genuine' value. This applies to anything, including robots. People can build really expensive and yet vastly inferior products purely with design decisions or any number of factors. And vise-versa...

Still the problem of the under capacity is already there.. let alone if ‘everyone would have an electric car ánd a humanoid robot’ to charge. Tesla has the most real world video data from its cars and therefore will have the best real world AI. therefore Optimus will have the best brain. Telsa also has the ability to produce a ton of video data from its factories in order to better train Optimus for those types of functions. Then Once people start purchasing Optimus for other uses outside of tesla factories, tesla will continuously get all of that data which will in turn improve Optimus’s brain which will make it better which will make more people buy it which will make it better etc etc providing a VERY powerful flywheel and moat. Boston dynamics has far better brainless robots though. My guess is they will be paying tesla for their AI services that function as the brains of their robots similar to how companies pay amazon for AWS

Besides one doesn't want a super strong robot around people because it can easily hurt people intentional or not. They also don't know how to manufacture. BD kind of missed the boat. Tesla Bot will be successful because it will be LESS physically capable and threatening. You don't need to pump iron to be a housemaid or carer. In fact you don't need super human capability to replace humans. Less is more in this case. Benign and slow is good, because it cannot overpower you but you can overpower it if required and simply disconnect power. But what Tesla does have that BD does not is vision and autonomy. Neural nets means that it can learn like a human without the need for coding. I'd ask you to rethink your bias. Bot is in fact a lesson in the pragmatic. It won't do everything perfectly but it will do most things well enough. And it will be affordable. Pretty much the revelation that Henry Ford brought to cars. Model T was not the best car in terms of speed and power, but it was the one ordinary people could afford. This is the uniqueness of Tesla Bot!

Why not give those robots the AI first, since making a robot hand that can compete with a human's hand it's decades away. not sarcastic. Besides unproven AI, Could it even pick up a needle to thread it, Start a roll of tape, put a lid on a cup, make change out of a register? How long would it take to peel a label off the backing, pick up a pen and write, tie a shoe etc. etc. A person, without looking, can pick up just one small screw out of a pile and orient it in his hand. A person can reach into their pocket and count change without looking. Please tell me the "easy" jobs a humanoid will be able to do! All the "easy" jobs are already automated as you point out.

Elons complete idea for Optimus has already failed: "We have a car that is a robot so we can use its technology for a humanoid robots." Not only did the robotaxis fail. No. But even if it would have been a success you could not use the same technology for a humanoid robot!

How do you know? State your experience. As regards FSD 400,000 cars are being driven with human assistance more safely than human only. FSD V12 now can use video and neural nets to learn heuristically through video and real world training. Thus the speed of improvement will now compund. Success is almost inevitable. You'd know that if you understood the technology. It might take time but it is inevitable. In the meantime, FSD is the best driver assist on the market and is already monetised. $200 pm or one off $10k single payment. Thus it is happening and it's already profitable. Thus it is inevitable that human intervention will reduce and eventually to nothing. I think the videos of FSD V12 make that pretty clear.

His detractors, like you are entirely invested in his politics. It's like hating a sports team from a different city. It's emotional, not logical. Elon's genius is mostly undercutting things like NASA or Car Companies. Building superior products for half the price when its finally scaled out. The only reason TESLA doesn't have the market share of Ford is b/c the infrastructure doesn't exist in large countries and the lack of scaling lithium production/battery life. That will be figured out at some point. He hasn't invested much in hyperloop but it's a good idea.
@xijinchan

He’s not done a hyperloop, you might be confusing with Branson’s attempt at the idea. His Boring Company loops have been hugely successful however, coming in at 10-100x less ($10-30m per mile) cost than traditional subways & got great reviews like when it serves Las Vegas for CES.

@@xijinchan I know he hasn't. That's my point. He hyped it for years and never came up with the goods. Don't put that on Branson, it was musk who made all the promises before digging a tunnel that you can drive along real slow and get nowhere.

It’s exactly the opposite. BD has to write a program for tasks that it wants its robots to do. That fun little dance? Every move was written in code. It’s cool looking, but it can’t do anything. Optimus’ design aims to solve a completely different problem.
