Go RHex! I had the joy of seeing the prototype for this in action a little over 5 years back, and it's certainly come a long way since!

This thing is awesome. The thing I like about Boston Dynamics, is that make their shit tough. Like when it was in the mud, underwater, smashing down rocks. Thats the kind of stuff potential clients want to see.

Great robot! The design of the "legs" are awesome!!

The propulsion is simple in design, but yet so effective. Very inspirational for the rest of us roboticists/scientists.

Incredible! that thing is a beast!

It's insane! Especially that last one, it's like a super roach! It's indestructible, goes anywhere, and goes fasts. It should be on mars! A hexapod and six wheel drive!! Perfect...
@ZeroTron14 жыл бұрын
This is really impressive, I like the fact they used the basic operation of the motor to be extremely direct with the operation of the legs but still have legs.

Gosh the last part of the video is awesome! Imagine this in a city raged by war and 200 of these things come running toward you with something you don't want to know... this is cruel i know, but you gotta admit it would be nice to see also. You can't deny that.

It does have some interesting advantages over a conventional wheel or even a treaded design

Really cool after it goes thru the mud ,water, dirt, and rocks. It crawls right up the stairs and detonates it's 5 pound high explosive payload. Sounds like like a toy I would give out for the holidays.

The force from the paddles is going in the oppostite direction of where they are pointing. So if they simply tilt the back paddles down, the force will be pushing its backside up and by that pitching the robot down. They can of course couple this with pitching the front paddles as well.

so far boston dynamics has the best stabilizing robots with wide ranges in leg motion. the others may walk by themselves but they cant even come close to climbing. and when BD finishes their humanoid its going to be unbelievable

HEY !!! That is my design !!! I designed that traction in collage. Fools said I was an idiot. Glad some ppl think like I do. Fools always ridicule genius. BTW ... my improved design is MORE stable. Interested ask to see the schematics.

This is pure genius! Although I would give it wider uh.. flappers, for better grip. It also doesn't seem to have a way to right itself if flipped over, unless it just runs upside down. I want one sooo bad.

by the time the bot's into the mud, when it pauses for that moment.. it almost looks like it's saying to itself "i get no respect... here i am.. in the MUD!" :D

The future of warfare; 500 of these making up a mobile mine field. The future of space exploration; 500 of these exploring the surface of Mars in a fraction of time the Rovers do it.

I would put little boots on him, a swastika and little moustache. You gotta admit that the swimming and stairs rock!
@aerowenn13 жыл бұрын
@dividenot I like your way of thinking, only problem with space exploration is the need for power, derived via solar cells, which are very fragile and must be on the exterior, no ruff and tumble play with those, but I'm sure these guys can find a solution to that!
@cato0y016 жыл бұрын
dude thats cool. itl be even faster if they tread the whole body then if the body was scraping anything it would push it even more. would help for water too (good auxillery thrust)

Such a simple yet amazingly effective solution only six servos yet it's going over terrain you'd never see those Japanese androids tackle. That seems to be the difference between western and eastern robots western bots seem to be simpler not usually humanoid but more practical and effective.
@loftkilla468414 жыл бұрын
nice concept for a mars rover, and dualing as a swimmer could mean doubling up on marketshare with one device.
@Dutchguymakesmodels13 жыл бұрын
if you translate this to say a tanklike vehicle it would proberly be allot less effective. but if you use this as a combat robot it has a lot of potential

looks timing is important for balance since each wheel is cut into half. middle wheels work like the other half of the rest of wheels.
