Dr. Thomas Seyfried, Biology Department
Current cancer research focuses on genetic origins of cancer, and standard treatments generally involve combinations of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. In Cancer as Metabolic Disease, Dr. Thomas Seyfried presents an alternative origin of cancer based on the theories of Otto Warburg, wherein cancer is viewed as a disease of cellular metabolic dysfunction due to damaged mitochondria. In addition to pointing to new directions of research, Dr. Seyfried elaborates on a non toxic mode of treatment, the ketogenic diet, which capitalizes on the inability of the damaged cancer cell mitochondria to metabolize ketones, thus starving them while maintaining healthy cells.
Thomas Seyfried is Professor of Biology at Boston College. He is a senior editor of the American Society of Neurochemistry’s journal ASN Neuro and is on the editorial boards of Journal of Lipid Research, Neurochemical Research and Nutrition & Metabolism.

My 80 years old brother was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma in the pancreas in April 2023. I am a not practitioner MD and when I saw this professor's explaining the metabolic approach of cancer, it made perfectly sense to me. I suggested my brother NOT to take radio nor chemotherapy and follow professor Seyfriedt instructions + turmeric + berberine. In August 2023 he took a new PET and the cancer was gone. His doctor couldn't believe the result of the control PET and ordered to review the biopsy from April believing there was a mistake in the biopsy report and that it has not been a Ca, but a pancreatitis. The review of the biopsy confirmed it was an adenocarcinoma. Many many thanks Dr. Seyfried 🙏

I just listened to this 8 years after Dr Seyfried made this video. As a health pro, the ketogenic way of eating makes sense to greatly lessen: 1-inflammation, 2-the mitochondrial decay/ dysfunction, & 3-stimulation/feeding of cancer. I've been eating this way for a few months now, along with doing intermittent fasting, & I have more energy, less inflammation, gradual weight loss, hugely diminished sugar cravings, & an improved sense of wellbeing overall.

Cut out all carbs, so no rice pasta potatoes noodles bread biscuits or cookies &cake. Fruits have fructose and are over consumed. Fructose is a major problem leading to fatty liver and overworking the pancreas, so cut out all fruits except avocado. Foods? Meats, egg, fish and green veggies. Basically nothing with carbs. The lower the carbs, the lower the fuel source for cancer cells to grow with. Lowering carbs is the key to preventing and treating cancer.

Dr. Seyfried is bold; we are unaccustomed to professionals speaking freely and honestly. He does not hide behind technical or medical language, and that in and of itself is refreshing. He has repeatedly said education is absent, but the real elephant in the room is there are too many people making a living off cancer. Food solutions cannot be monetized many feel kind of diet, as a way of life, is too hard. Too many foods people love would have to be curtailed.

Too many people in the food manufacturing industry profiting from foods and ingredients with multisyllabic names; things like HFCS (wreaks havoc on metabolic health) and the ubiquitous MSG- now under the guise of euphemistic names like “citric acid,” “vegetable protein,” and the like. It is degenerating our metabolic health and how we assimilate. This man is a prince.

I am so grateful that I have been watching Dr. Berg videos for a couple of years which led me to this video. Thank you for your research and video. I have a close family member with cancer and there has been ZERO mention of any dietary changes by any doctor and we have been to nationally known clinics. The oncologist was describing how the PET scan worked and how “cancer loves sugar” but no mention of reducing sugar intake. As a long time keto dieter I’m dismayed by the lack of recommending this terrific option by doctors.

I be agree. I was appalled to hear two people who were diagnosed with cancer tell me their doctors told them to eat whatever they wanted because chemo would make them lose weight. So they’re eating sweets since they figure they’re going to die anyway. I wish they would listen to me and this doctor and stop sugar and do intermittent fasting.

@@moonmagnolia7 Yes, I've heard people say the same thing. Their doc said just eat what you want now, you already have cancer so don't worry about it. Cancer lives off of glucose and related sugars so that is just absurd. Cancer mitochondria are damaged and can't switch over and utilize ketones like normal cells can so why not weaken them by denying them access to as much glucose as possible with fasting and keto / carnivore diets in addition to chemo if prescribed? Thanks to KZfaq and other media the word is getting out about these metabolic therapies so hopefully that will continue.

I appreciate Dr. Thomas Seyfried and his ideas around cancer being a metabolic disease. I hope he gets caught up on the latest research in regards to fat intake as he seems to still buy into the old dogma of the failed diet-heart hypothesis. If we were to marry the learnings of Seyfried and of Dr. Jason Fung, perhaps we could discover greatly improved health and the elimination of most cancers, type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, heart disease, strokes, and so many other conditions and diseases. The key lies in better hormone regulation (especially insulin), ketosis and autophagy. Medicine can some day become a secondary aide rather than our primary focus for good health.

This whole thing can make a great sense to even an illiterate. My personal experiences with my ailing mother, 78 years and left 28 Kg, now shows me it works BUT as he mentions these won’t move forward unless practitioners at the hospital do their job against the tradition. From all the interviews I have watched I am not getting these two answers and these are also the reasons these diets can’t move forward. 1) Keto cuts the weight down but one of the challenges for a cancer patient is to maintain weight. How an elderly for example can live long enough on Keto without glucose and amino acids? Hospitals mix all amino acids and glutamine is one of them. Any substitutes? 2) Who will help answer concerns and questions without delay when someone wanting to Keto-kill the cancer need immediate answers, which candy and sugary cokes selling hospitals won’t answer? If no answers and help, these talks will only remain academic. Thank you.

There's an existing treatment system that has a fair margin of failure and offers a minor extensions on life for remaining time suffering (chemo, radiation) and no one seems to have a problem with that. So if the existing system can be faulty we cannot predetermine an alternative as wrong and useless because it's imperfect. All that does is preserve the beaten path.

There is another takeaway going on here. Why wait til it's broke and then attempt to fix it? Consider while we are healthy that drastically reducing carbs can create a more healthy environment for our cells to exist. The word Ketogenic was mentioned several times during this video. I would say at the very least, find out information about the Ketogenic diet, intermittent fasting and prolonged fasting. Stack the deck in our favour from the get go. And I will close by saying, what's to lose?

Congratulations! That is how I would treat it. I absolutely do not go to drs. I would avoid sugar altogether. In fact, I do. I would do a carnivore diet with lots of healthy fats (lard, butter, chicken fat). Some or actually all plants have toxins in them, not enough to kill us, but the plants do protect themselves from being eaten. I would leave out all plants at least for a while. Take a look at this kzfaq.info/get/bejne/grl9jZmW16-aYYE.html They are talking about oxalates which are some of the most potent toxins within the plant kingdom. Might be something you ought to get familiar with. The best of luck to you and happy healing.

Hopefully with good diet and lifestyle i'll have good protection against.. keep healthy folks 😎

The key is to keep blood glucose low and prevent spikes. You can test yourself by monitoring your blood glucose. You don't need to wait for a cancer to develop. The ideal blood sugar is 83, with no more than a rise of 20 points (up to about 105) one hour after eating. Your body is the ultimate arbiter of the healthiness of your diet.

Maternal sugar intake during gestation, or maybe genetic.

@rafalpaliga1775
@rafalpaliga1775 7 ай бұрын
@venessavuia I have no idea. I have not come across any doctor/professor/scientist who specifically claimed that. As little as I understand blood cancer, I think that the abnormal white blood cells might be just like all other cancer cells that get energy from fermentation.. which means that fasting could be beneficial.. but that is my guess and nothing more than that.. fasting would be my "go-to" self treatment if I was diagnosed with any type of cancer. But I would probably do a lot of research before attempting anything else. I'm no expert at this. I just like to listen to scientists and doctors who talk about natural ways of treating any disease. My dad passed away at the age of 47 to colon cancer, and I would like to avoid that happening to me..

More information, PLEASE. I read about a place in Turkey, I think it was on Mercola's site. I listened to a nearly three hour podcast with Dr, Peter Attia and Dr. Dom D'Agastino. Recorded about two weeks ago. They talked about the George Cahill test from 1970 where he fasted a group until their ketones were maxed, then gave them insulin to lower glucose to as low as 9, which is normally fatal. Seems like a no brainer to try on a cancer patient, but they said the IRB won't allow it. Dr. Dom said he can't even do it to mice.
