Started many of these Army units with the pony engine. Start the pony, engage a clutch, let the diesel turn over for a while ( depended on temp ), when ya think it was ready, turn on the fuel. Have to laugh about it, but it was so simple it worked.

+Bostonpowercat I live in western Iowa and more than a couple of the farms around me have a D8 cat setting around ,,, usually used to build and maintain terraces ,,I personally don't have any tracked equipment aside from a couple large farm tractors with rubber tracks I have 2 large articulated 4x4 tractors similar to the 830M both large steiger tractors ,,the larger of the 2 is powered by a 500HP 8V-92TT aftercooled Detroit 2 stroke diesel
@Bostonpowercat
@Bostonpowercat 8 жыл бұрын
The older Cats are not so common in the UK unlike the States, but the US is their homeland. The Steigers are meant to be great tractors from what I have heard, the Detroit 2 stroke is screamer, bet it sounds awesome?!!
@wildcoyote34

Great video, but you should tow trees from the bottom end so that the branches don't dig into everything, so much! Although, i don't suppose the branches catching on things, is much of a problem when you have a D8 doing the towing.
@Bostonpowercat
@Bostonpowercat 8 жыл бұрын
Yes very good point, unfortunately the bottom end of the tree was on the other side of a stream/river so couldn't get the D8 to it and we didn't have a long enough chain to reach across to it. The D8 has plenty of grunt though so a few branches didn't worry it :-) Thanks for the comment 👍👍

+Bostonpowercat Mole plow, I've never seen that done on a field. I've seen it done to lay cable and irrigation lines. Never just for drainage, here they lay in plastic corrugated pipe from a big roll.
@Bostonpowercat
@Bostonpowercat 8 жыл бұрын
The best way and long term way is to lay the corrugated pipe like you mention, but it sure does cost a lot, mole ploughing is a very cheap alternative, but can be very effective. The field we did it in is just used for grazing so not really worth the effort/cost of laying pipes. Where you from? Cheers

Don,t waste your time greasing link pins....if you want you can use SAE 30 oil and squirt some on the links but even that will not penetrate new pins and links as they are a tight fit with no bushes or bearings.

+Anthony Macneil Have a look round the forums, you might come across something, your right though a lot of the street ff out there for sale is the new stuff so you need to look in the more niché places. It's a 6 cylinder diesel, holds about 55 gallons and that would do a 8 to 10 hour day depending how hard you were working.

Hello!! Sorry for the language confusion, we can use google translate, but it never seems very good for some of the technical words!! we have a friend who speaks Spanish so it's normally not a problem, but he's away at the moment :-( I take it you mean the tracks are squeaky/noisy? They are a brand new set of tracks on it after a full rebuild and it hasn't been run much so they are still tight and stiff therefore making a lot of noise! With a bit more work they will settle down and the noise will go. Greetings to you Juan from Bostonpowercat :-)
