Flagellated sperm swim to the archegonia and fertilize eggs.However ,unlike liverworts,the zygote developes into a long and slender sporophyte that eventually splits open, releasing spores.Additionally,thin cells called pseudoelaters surround the spores and help propel them further in the environment
