I have a love-hate relationship with Botcast. Love you guys coz well you are pretty awesome. The (mild) hate comes from the fact that I spend a fuckload on books everytime you guys come out with an episode. Side note, I need that prawns + bhindi recipe now!

Here's a thing. A subscriber of books on toast is a reader just like Anuya and Sharin. She has a long list of books to read. One day she watches an episode of the botcast. She comes to know about new books through the botcast and starts to read them instead. Therefore she too doesn't get to r read anything of her long list. It seems like we have similar problems

Great episode it’s my favourite genre, only one complain - religion was the center of Tudor period when Henry viii converted whole country from catholic to Protestant. Thomas Cromwell was part of Protestant lobby. Shakespeare was Puritan catholic, somehow survived during Elizabethan period and later under tumultuous Stuart period.

I have the same mental block against non-fiction xD But I was gifted one recently and I read it because the cover was beautiful - Kohinoor by William Dalrymple and Anita Anand. So it covers quite a bit of British Raj, Duleep Singh and his life, and according to that, he actually pretty much embraced the Christian life early in his life, willingly converted (which was a big issue because the British didn't want to risk the anger of the people that they had "forced" him) - it was much later in life when he met his actual mother after a long time that he started remembering his old life and felt bitter, etc. About Roots, apparently there were people who had researched and found out that Hailey faked a lot of it and presented it as truth (IIRC, the griot who "told" him about his ancestry was fake or unreliable or something of the sort). It was still such a fascinating read, though, that I didn't care much :p Glad you guys did this topic, historical fiction is my favourite way of reading history :p (and then wikipedia-ing the shit out of the topic). Most of the historical fiction I've read is World War stuff (Ken Follett is
