The good news is, our junkyard 318 is strong enough to snatch a wheel on motor alone. The bad news is that a miscalculation while tying the car down to the trailer kept us from making any full passes.
Never the less, we got a surprisingly effortless 1.6 60 foot, and we made big strides towards our ultimate goal.

What's *MORE* surprising is Uncle Tony did not rebuild the *ENTIRE* front suspension with *NEW* upper and lower control arm bushings, balljoints, etc., if for no other reasons than that of *SAFETY.* When you neglect such mandatory/default/necessary maintenance you run into *WEIRD/ATYPICAL* problems such as this. Uncle Tony's escapades at the track are similar to those of Big Daddy Dale Wilson and his boys over at Skull Garage KZfaq channel (go check 'em out if you've never seen their videos), notorious for using junk/used/well-worn parts and always breaking, running into weird problems, etc. Moral of the story: Use worn-out/junk parts, get weird problems and junk results.

The lesson here is: reverse your pistons, pop a wheelie and blow out a rubber bushing when you land.
@theeoddments960
@theeoddments960 3 жыл бұрын
You don’t have to reverse pistons. His method was really useful 30 years ago when you could find a block without taper that didn’t need a .030 overbore and can flip the stock safe piston offset but now no modern pistons have that offset anymore besides straight stock replacements, they usually have straight offset angles now, and switching he pistons around does literally nothing. It was a tip that was once useful but dried up a while ago that’s no longer viable. I’m gonna have to agree on dulcich’s part when he says wouldnt every piston have “sporty backwards offsets” since people have the option now? Nobody makes that and there isn’t a conspiracy about how “big muscle car” is holding back on big power mods. They’re not. You cannot find a good low mile 60’s early 70’s block that is just in perfect shape.

@@electrix6751 it’s an overarching theme in his KZfaq channel it’s simple errors that take out all his projects. You can’t just rely on a car to be “tough” in order to cut corners and hope that these stock 50 year old suspension components can handle being the specific point where you tie down the car to a trailer. If Bottle Rocket falls apart next time I'm going to lose interest. I get it, running on a budget build, but you need to put in some new parts to at least make it down the track. That bushing was rotted out to break like that. Like you said, "it was in the front end" and I jumped a 72 Plymouth Scamp at a bush party in high school and blew two tires and flattened two rims (and destroyed a wheel bearing that failed several miles later). You got to make sure the basics are solid to make it down the track or people will lose interest.

There is an acceptable level of sloppy and then there isn't. When I did my drag setup I went FULL poly bushings all over the suspension to replace the old stockers. I only spent 150 on the bushing kit but it was WELL worth the added cost over the rubbers especially for the added peace of mind. Solid or poly, no in-between. I know you hate naysayers but I figured you had done this on bottle rocket.

I drive a 30 year old car and I wanted to make sure that all of them were going to hold up to the abuse of 600hp and 700 + ft/lb of TQ through my nitrous 347 stroker. Old rubbers are how bad things happen ask your mom. ;) It had NOTHING to do with flex I wanted the old shit gone and longer-lasting poly bushings in. PERIOD.
