Stefan Djordjevic Just leave the flash pointing "up". When you turn the camera to portrait position it will automatically be facing the wall. Forget the card--you don't need two light sources. The wall becomes a giant softbox and gives a natural yet dramatic light.

Hi Tony, great tips. Ive got both your books and your DVD collection. Do you have a video on how to set exposure when using a flash? When I'm not using a flash, I know what settings I need instinctively, but since getting an external flash (Yongnuo 568 ex ii) I'm not sure how to set this up and adjust my exposure as the light meter seems to mean nothing. Thanks, Danny

Marckymarc71 Thanks, I ended up getting the 750 flash. I shot a friends wedding about one week ago, the flash is very powerful even using bounce light. One thing that kept happening several times was that the flash would not fire. The photo would come out dark, I would delete and try again then usually the flash would work. Can't figure out why this kept happening.

Anothwr great video Tony! Just one question about flash EV settings in addution to bounce flash tricks. Would increasing or decreasing the the EV for the flash also be a good way to control some of the shadowing if your un a situation where you only have one decent source (wall or celling) to bounce light off? Ok two questions lol What benefits would it be to adjust the EV flash setting over just using a different power setting? Thanks for your time, your many quality videos, & awesome content!

Hi, I notice that you used the Yongnuo YN-568EX II. Is there any benefit to using the camera branded flash unit? i.e. canon or sony? They are typical 3 to 4x the cost of this unit though. I wouldn't mind getting an external flash, but paying almost $400 for the sony one seems crazy, when I could use that extra money for a lens?

Tony, I read down below in the comments you said you use the 70-200 for portraits but that you don't reccomend it to most people. Can you say why you personally like to use it ? Why you don't recommend it? Does it have to do with because of how it changes the background differently? I love the effects of using my 70-300mm lens (I use Nikon) for portaits but can only use it outdoors. There is not enough room in doors for me to stand as far back as I need to. And I have a pretty big house so the rooms are not terribly snall either. I end up using my 85mm 1.8 lens , more for this reason. Still interested why you like using the 70-200 though.
@TonyAndChelsea
@TonyAndChelsea 10 жыл бұрын
I do cover this in detail in the Buying Guide (sdp.io/buybg), and we have a review coming out soon. The 70-200 f/2.8 format is wonderful, but the Canon, Nikon, and Sony versions are overpriced. I push most people to the Tamron or Sigma varieties (but usually the Tamron (amzn.to/10kHsHI).

Peter Nurman This is an old comment but I will reply to you anyway. You don't have to use them bith at the same time. The bounce card is to bounce light and the wide angle diffuser is to spread the light out a little more and soften it a little bit

I had trouble with my 70D with bouce flash. It would be at full power when aimed directly at the subject. When i set it up at a white ceiling the power was significatly lower and the image darker. I complained to canon and they said there was no issue with it. I went to a canon demo and talked with a rep about it and he said it works just fine. I went on some forums and they we all complaining about the same issue. So, i figured it was going to be an issue for me with this camera. Several years have passed now and i went on the canon website recently to see if they have an update on the software for the 70D and sure enough they did. That solved the problem. So, if any of your followers has this issue i suggest updating the software.

I'd rather have a flash and not need it than need a flash and not have it :)

We have the same flash^^. I just noticed it by the noise when you turned it on, that zoom is loud

Yeah, it's a great flash. I tell everyone NOT to buy Canon/Nikon/Sony... the name brand flashes are a complete rip-off.

Same here. I have to say I'm more than happy with my YN-568EX II. Not to mention it costs less than a third of the price of Canon's flagship speedlite while having nearly the same features and power output.
