As a sport climber I think it's such a good thing this line is not bolted, otherwise it would just be another 9a or whatever an now it's something special.
@Mike-oz4cv3 жыл бұрын
Special because it’s unnecessarily dangerous? I kind of understand the allure of trad climbing, but when you think about it rationally it’s just unnecessary risk which doesn’t really change the overall experience. I prefer well protected routes where I don’t have to fear for my life when climbing.

@@Mike-oz4cv Tribe is as far as I know super safe for a trad route. I mostly climb sport routes, too but I think many sport routes are kind of over bolted especially in countries like spain. It can add a lot to the experience when you have to climb a few meters between bolts while onsighting, the fact that you have to really comit makes it more rewarding for me. That's probably what trad is all about I guess...just a bit more bad ass

@@Mike-oz4cv like you climb 9a anyways

@@Mike-oz4cv trad climbing will get you to places sport climbing never could. Also there is something to be said about not putting holes in the rock and keeping the cliff "pure" of imperfections

@@Mike-oz4cv It can change the overall experience inestimably. Some of the best trad routes in the UK would make reasonable, but possibly forgettable sport routes, but can be life-changing experiences as trad routes. If you get it, you get it.

"I really couldn't stand the idea of just reduce(ing) the entire process to a number." -Jacopo Larcher Epic words.

Same reason why after MacLeod did Rhapsody he didn't give Echo Wall a grade. Shame really.

Well yes, and then you see all of the climbing preparation with top-roping (pre-placing friends and nuts), I understand it is a hard route, but with this kind of support it is just a number, exactly as he said it should not be climbed :-).

Totally resonate with that. I know its part of the sport but its just plain stupid sometimes.

Definitely chuckled when James said he's probably the world's worst grader x).

What's the story behind that? I think I knew about it but I just can't remember the case(s).

@@Iszil The walk of life, he graded as E12. Dave Macleod the graded it E9. (Covered in the awesome film "redemption") www.ukclimbing.com/logbook/crags/dyers_lookout-674/the_walk_of_life-113057

@@edwardoakley8659 It wasn't just that. Also The Groove and The Promise getting big downgrades. E10 to E8/E7. Definitely recommend watching the Reel Rock film Redemption as well. He comes back to finish the unfinished Rhapsody after trash talking it without having even done it yet.

"grade isnt important but its the hardest trad route ive done" so it is important xD i feel jacopo really meant it though bc he knows it was superhard n he enjoyed the process and for trad is really about purity and authenticity n at the end the grade at such level specially shoulndt matter since it is MEGA hard

Can someone explain why he has two ropes at 9:00? Does he have two belayers?
@alexthompson34473 жыл бұрын
Reduces rope drag when the gear or route isn’t in a straight line. Single belay device which takes 2 ropes. Common practice on many trad routes.

In sport climbing areas it s good to have both options, , traditional and sport sclimbing mode . You can do it also freesolo, when you fall you die1 You are not my heroes !
