I really like the idea of getting access to bottles through the tours. Otherwise you have the Buffalo Trace situation where people line up for a mile every day to flip them, and those of us on vacation miss out. Evan Williams had EC Toasted for people who did their speakeasy tour, I thought that was pretty cool.

Yeah the only people that wouldn’t like Old Forester’s way are the locals but it really is the best way to promote the business and bring in traffic.

I don't think it is a bad practice at all to do tour releases. But Old Forester has been one of the best distillerys that do allocated releases in Kentucky and I think to cut locals off because the fear of flipping is the wrong way of handling it honestly.

Good video… I hit most of those distilleries up fairly regularly myself. The boon county is the one I’ll start hitting. My family lives in Cincinnati, I live in Lexington. So I’m in Cincy all the time. Good video as always

Maker's has the DNA series and other distillery only options, I think it's a pretty good grab. But, I agree with your entire list.

just by way of update... I was at Heaven Hill last week. They do put out something allocated nearly every day. However, they are no longer posting what is going to be out. They told me that it got to be too crazy and ugly, so they have made that change. I don't live in KY, so still got what they had that day which was the toasted Elijah Craig. I got there at 10am thinking there would be a line for the opening at 11am opening. There was no one else there till about 10:30. I have to say that was nice.

Big fan of Z’n D. Staying in Bardstown in March. Giddy AF. Have a few tours and tastings set up. Now in 2023… does HH still put up next day drop on FB? Didn’t see it. Btw… what liquor store in Bardstown would i most likely bump into either one of you guys? Best place to find quality Single Barrels. Love to bring home a couple KY SiBs. Cheers

Peerless, although they are pricey, usually have some unique and tasty single barrels.

3:20 there's actually a pretty huge secondary market for Bardstown. I've been trying to get my hands on the Chateau de Laubade but can't find it for under a grand. Also series 3 and 4 of discovery have become unicorns as well.

went to trace wait wasn't that bad but could not get eagle rare was not a happy camper. great time tho. hevan hills got 2 barrel proofs. can buy 1 a day that was awesome

Did the you do bourbon “tour” at Heaven Hill !! got to bottle my own bourbon barrel proof at heaven hill had to pay $40 for the tour and then buy the bottle but still cool

Update went back to Kentucky scored a Boone county barrel strength single barrel 8 year and stood in the cold for an old fitz 11 year at heaven hill

Hey Guys thanks for the video! My wife are traveling down to Tennessee and Kentucky for a trip in January. Based on what I'm reading I think we're going to visit Four Roses, is Saturday a good day to go? We're also going to Jack Daniel's, but for fun not necessarily allocated bottles.

Honestly on most Saturdays it is rare to find any barrel strengths. It is never a guarantee but your best shots are normally on Thursday and Friday. But the good news is you can call both gift shops and they will tell you what they have that day.

Do you have to do one of the bourbon experiences at Heaven Hill to be able to purchase the allocated bottles? Or can you just show up early and still have the opportunity to purchase?

You have to show up really for there releases at the gift on Tues/Thurs. But if you follow them on Facebook you should be able to see what they are dropping on those days the day before so you know if you want to go and line up or not. Also they will from time have tours/tasting where you can get allocation from them but it is really random. Good luck and happy hunting brother!
