Awesome info; thanks for breaking it down so well! This explains why shooting a Great Plains 60" Swift is SOOO much smoother and easier than the Black Hunter at my 32" draw length. The Black Hunter is stacking like crazy for me!

The draw I have is why I had to order, (yet to get) the Youth Longbow at 45 pounds in Hickory as it is going to maximize my draw as I am 24--24.5 inches depending on handle shape in draw the same distance the bow is measured to the weight. This way I am drawing exactly the bow I know is going to work for my length and not have to do math to find the weight I need for the bow. Right now, I am wanting right now 43--46 pounds from a bow and I am trying for 45 pounds. Now if the better Chinese brand OEELINE Airobow I had bought my second bow from before had a 55 pound or even 60 pound bow, I would have tried that since I love how the bow is a 54 inch in cheaper woods though still a copy of a Bear Super Grizzly, but the model maxed out at 50 pounds on Amazon.

Once the string reaches an angle of 90° with the limbs , the bow start to stack because the string at that angle in place of bending the bow starts to "lengthen" the limbs and that's impossible .

Hey mate this segment was very informative interesting and covered many points we all archers argue about 😂 I would like to contact the bowyer but as Big Horn is out of business I thought I’d ask you, I have a 29” draw and a BH takedown with curved limbs that is 68# @ 25”, 60 long, what do you think? At this poundage I’m not sure I can “feel” it stacking. Jake
@greatplainsbow
@greatplainsbow 6 ай бұрын
At that draw length with 60" limbs it wouldn't stack on you. It can be deceptive on the heavier poundage bows and just heavy draw weight is sometimes interpreted as stacking, but at 25" your bow is not stacking yet

Great video as always i knew about that it wasnt good to overdraw a bow but never thought about how it got affected if it was to long thats new to me but makes so sense. Depending on my shoulder and how it is i draw 27 too 27.5 on my model b 60 amo and its butter smooth. I could probably go to 29 if not even a little more. Also nearing 1000 subs and giveaway of the youth bow mow congrats 😁

@@greatplainsbow in this dumb country its not legal to hunt with a bow. But i really want too!! Its a dream to someday take a buck but i need to travel to germany then. I shoot 3d and my rinehart 18-1 mainly. Looking to up my pundage a little from now at 42 to 45 or 48. Im a old martial artist so my shoulders have gotten extremy much better after archery. I operated my right shoulder in 2012 since it was a little loose in the top part so my bow os my favorite training tool and my model b is one damn fine one at that

I was wondering what kind of clear coat you use for foam core limbs? An oil based or water base clear coat? I am afraid that an oil based might eat the foam? I have target ilf limbs that are shiny and what a dull finish for hunting..

In my opinion, when a bow delaminates like that, it is due to the fade out of the grip piece. The transition has not been made smooth enough, and so there is a small section that is overstressed, and that is where the laminates are pulled apart. It's more of a design flaw than the fault of someone drawing it too far. - although that will contribute too, of course

Probably the best explanation I ever hear on the topic. Just one question though .... Does everything hold true depending on the bow having a bending as opposed to a solid non-bending handle/riser, or do the limbs have to be longer for non bending risers?
@greatplainsbow
@greatplainsbow Жыл бұрын
The riser fades and amount of flex in the riser is extremely important. Too many bowyers fade the riser improperly. On a 3 piece bow the wedges must flex and on a one piece bow the riser itself flexes. If the riser does not flex at all then yes the limbs will need to be longer for longer draws, but a bow that has no flex at all in either wedges or riser will suffer in performance
@greatplainsbow
@greatplainsbow Жыл бұрын
Plus not only will performance be affected, but a bow like that will have a shorter life span

It depends largely on the particular style of bow you are looking at. Longbow? Recurve?

This is poor info in my opinion, he makes it seem like if you over draw a bow by a half inch it will fail you in no time. A good modern bow will not do this.

This comment is poor info in my opinion. He literally said that he likes for his personal bow to stack with 1\2” left on his draw to be more efficient in hunting situations….

He didn’t say that at all, he specifically said 1.5” overdraw is acceptable
